Discussion All plane shapes are made up of straight or curved lines or combination of both. There are two different kinds of lines. 1. Straight Lines: Observe the edge of this bondpaper. Place a ruler along its edge. All its edges are straight line. Straight lines may be drawn in different directions and are given three names. There are three different types of straight lines: (i) Horizontal lines: A horizontal line is one that goes from left to right across the page. This is because horizontal lines are parallel to the horizon. You can see horizontal lines all around you. If you look out at the sea from the shore, you will see the horizon where the sea meets the sky. When you lie down flat on your bed or on the sofa, you are lying horizontally. (ii) Vertical lines: A vertical line is one that goes up to down. (iii) Diagonal or slanting lines: They’re not quite horizontal, and not quite vertical. Diagonal lines are somewhere in between. They go across from high to low, low to high. Diagonal lines can seem like they are on the move. They evoke action and excitement. Just imagine skiing down a slope, or soaring down a ramp on your skateboard. You can thank diagonal lines for your adrenaline rush! 2. Curved Lines: It is an object similar to line but not straight. The teacher will instruct students to write their name in capital letters. And discuss that letters also has straight and curved lines as well as numbers and shapes. D. Generalization What are the lines we discussed today? Aside from our names, what are other things that has straight and curved lines in it? F. Application The teacher will give each student an activity sheet. Instructions: Follow and trace the broken line to create horizontal, vertical, curved, and slanting line. IV. EVALUATION In the given picture color the horizontal lines blue, slant lines red, vertical lines orange and curved lines green. V. ASSIGNMENT List down 5 things you found in your house that has horizontal, vertical, slant, and curved lines.
