Variation means that some movements must take longer or shorter time. This creates a rhythmic pattern. 3.4 Critically discuss how symmetry, asymmetry and patterning are used in space. (4) A dance makes use of symmetry, asymmetry and patterning to move through space. (Only give 1 mark if a learner mentions “space”) Symmetry is like a mirror image. The dancers stand opposite sides, but reflect each other’s movements. Asymmetry is when dancers do contrasting movements. They do not reflect each other’s movements. It’s the opposite. Patterning is when the same movements are repeated and no new moves are added. As your emotion and mood changes as a character, your breathing also changes. 6.5 Critically discuss what indigenous storytelling is and motivate whether it still has a place in this day and age. In SA, storytelling have developed over generations. Stories about good and evil. Through interactions between human and non-human characters. When these indigenous stories are retold, the storyteller makes spontaneous changes. Storytelling is vital in sharing stories about our forefathers/predecessors before us. OR People nowadays seem less interested about history and where they come from. They would not be interested in stories that has no relevance on today’s icons, celebrities or any current affair especially social media related matters.
