MECHANICS AND CRITERIA FOR JUDGING THE ESSAY WRITING CONTEST IN THE
CELEBRATION OF THE NATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH 2023
A. Mechanics
1. The Essay Writing Competition, as one of the activities of the National Women’s Month, is open
to all Galas NHS students.
o Junior High School Department shall have at least 1 contestant in each year level.
o Senior High School Department shall have at least 2 contestants in each year level.
2. The theme of the essay writing contest is, "WE for gender equality and inclusive society”.
3. All entries must be written in English and must have at least 1,500 words but must not exceed
2,000 words.
4. All essays must be original and not have been previously published.
5. All entries must follow the specifications below:
Paper size: A4 bond papers
6. Copies of entries must be submitted to Ms. Sweetchields Ordeniza.
8. Awarding of the winners will be on the Culminating week of the Women's month celebration.
B. Criteria for Judging
All entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
• Content (Relevance to the Theme, Comprehensiveness, Originality) - 35 %
• Organization (Clarity of thoughts, Creativity, Unity and Consistency) - 35 %
• Mechanics (Punctuation, Spelling, Capitalization, Grammar) - 30%
Total 100
C. Prizes
1. 1st Place winner shall receive prizes, school supplies and certificate.
2. ALL participants shall receive certificates.
