IV. PROCEDURES
A.
Presentation of
lesson
Hello learners! We are almost on the last part
of our lesson on factors affecting climate.
Let’s focus our mind to the effect of distance
from bodies of water, topography, and ocean
currents affects climate of a place.
The teacher will play an slide show about the
key concepts on the factors affecting climate.
Show some pictures and let the students
guess what is the word that best describes it.
What is the difference between climate
change and global warming?
Possible Answers:
1.
Greenhouse Gases
2.
Coal
3.
Change
4.
Earth
5.
Temperature
Let the students formulate their answer
using this illustration shown above.
Present graphical presentations and pictures
of this lesson.
For example, pictures with explanation from
Science 9 Q3-CLAS 5 Module.
B.
Establishing a
purpose for the
lesson
Ask the class to proceed on their respective
groups then prepare their manila paper and
marking pen.
Explain the objectives of this lesson to the
class and what are the expected output and
outcomes as they performed the different sets
of activities.
C.
Presenting
examples/instances
of the new lesson
Have the students watch a video about
topography of a place and how it affects the
climate / environment/ way of living of the
people in a particular region in the country.
Click the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1pkHIHXVc
After 5 minutes of slide show.
The teacher will say: Okay class, this afternoon
I want to assess you based on what you have
learned from our previous lesson-Factors
affecting climate. This is a 20 items
quiz/assessment. Get ready!
The teacher will explain the directions and
purpose of their quiz.
Understanding factors affecting climate was
our previous lesson discussed and studied.
Now, let us focus to the meaning of climate
change and its impact to our environment.
We will also be going to perform variety of
activities for you to find out the causes of
climate change and search for possible
solutions to lessen the impact of this
phenomena.
The teacher will ask the class to pay
attention on the video to be presented and
take notes of important key terms/words
about climate change.

Today we will focus on the difference
between climate change and global
warming. I want you also to identify the
major causes of climate change in going
through this lesson. Are all set? Let’s begin
and explore new concepts and learning
about climate change.
“Global warming” refers to the rise in
global temperatures due mainly to the
increasing concentrations of greenhouse
gases in the atmosphere. “Climate change”
refers to the increasing changes in the
measures of climate over a long period of
time
–
including
precipitation,
temperature, and wind patterns.

topography and how it affects climate of the
place.

What are these pictures all about?
Greenhouse gases
(water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide, CFCS, Carbon
dioxide)
Each group are assigned to fill in
appropriate information in the table by
giving the description and environmental
issues such as -climate change, global
warming, or greenhouse effect.
The teacher will show a pie graph about the
percentage composition of earth’s atmosphere.

What are the gases that primarily present
in the earth’s atmosphere?
What percentage of oxygen and nitrogen
present in the atmosphere?
How atmosphere is related to climate
change?
Ask this question.
What will happen if there are no greenhouse gases
in the earth atmosphere? If there are too much
amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere?
Do you want to know the answer?
Come on, let’s travel, and seek the answer.
Activity 2: TRAVELMATE

which destination would he/she like to visit
first and so on.

In this activity, the teacher aims the
students to compare the type of climate each
country has, then describe the kind of
Possible answers:
Climate Change - refers to long-term shifts in
temperatures and weather patterns.
Global Warming- the phenomenon of increasing
average air temperatures near the surface of
Earth over the past one to two centuries
Greenhouse Effect – it happens when
greenhouse gases such as Carbon dioxide (CO2),
Methane (CH4), Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs),
and Nitrous oxide (N2O), trap heat preventing it
from escaping the Earth. This will result in the
increase of global temperature.
Presentation of the group output.
At this point, let us watch a video about the
major causes that act as main drivers of
climate change.

climate using the following given materials
inside the paper bag. They have to think how
those items can be used to explain a certain
concept of the lesson.
After 5 minutes, each group will be going to
show their creative presentations.
Life connects!
1. How do ocean currents affect our everyday
lives?
Ocean currents act much like a conveyor belt,
transporting warm water and precipitation from the
equator toward the poles and cold water from the
poles back to the tropics. Thus, ocean currents
regulate global climate, helping to counteract the
uneven distribution of solar radiation reaching
Earth's surface.
After 30 minutes, the teacher will ask the class
to exchange their paper for checking. Then,
papers are collected by instructing learners to
pass their paper forward without making
unnecessary noise.

The group of students will list down on the
manila paper the possible causes of climate

The teacher will call at least 2 boys and 2 girls
to present their output in front of the class
through draw lots.
H. Making
generalizations and
abstractions about
the lesson
Ask the class to get their science notebooks
and answer the let’s sum it up from the
quarter 9 – CLAS 3 – Factors affecting
climate. Give them 5 minutes to answer.
What is climate change?
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in
temperatures and weather patterns. These
shifts may be natural, such as through
variations in the solar cycle. But since the
1800s, human activities have been the main
driver of climate change, primarily due to
burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
How modernization, industrialization, and
human activities became the main driver of
climate change?
Ask these questions.
1. How climate change, global warming,
and greenhouse gasses are related to one
another?
2. What are the major causes of climate
change based on our activity?
3. As a human, what is your major role to
our dearest mother earth?

Evaluating learning
Ask the class to fall in line according to their group
then explain what are they going do in this last part
of the lesson.
This is entitled- pick and go where they need to
answer the question correctly to get their points.
Checking and recording the scores.
In your earth science notebook, answer the following
questions.
Additional activities for
application or
remediation
1. Define climate change.
2. Identify the different factors of climate change.
3. List down at least 10 impacts of climate change.
4. List down at least 10 solutions on how to lessen
the impact of climate change.
In your science
notebook. Define
climate change using
the pictures shown
below.
Quiz-Climate Fish – Causes of Climate
Change
List down at least 10 possible causes of
climate change in your earth science
notebook.
List down at least 10 effects of climate
change in your earth science notebook.
Attach pictures and updates regarding to
the following effects.
