Emmett Till Final Assessment: Choose Your Own Response
Directions: Think about what you’ve learned, thought, and felt while studying the story of Emmett Till.
Complete one response to what show you’ve learned. Your response must show your knowledge of the Emmett Till case and
your opinions concerning those issues.
Choose ONE of These Possible Responses:
- Write a poem or song lyrics (from Emmett’s perspective or your own perspective - be creative!).
- Write a letter to Emmett Till or his mother (Mamie Till). In your letter tell them how the story of Emmett Till made you
feel, how did his story impact the world and make a change for the better. You can also include how you think the state the
world is in today. Would it make them happy, sad or both.
- Write an obituary for Emmett Till.
Minimum Requirements to Receive Full Credit:
-The poem or song lyrics must contain a minimum of 10 lines.
-The letter should be a minimum of three well-developed paragraphs in friendly letter format.
-The obituary must contain a picture, born, died, family life, interests and activities he had, his background and what his last
days were like.
-The response should be carefully proofread and may have no more than three spelling/grammar errors.
