Country: The Islamic Republic of Iran. Committee: DISEC Agenda: Reduction of military budgets and establishment of continental nuclear-weapon-free zone treaties. The United States, India and China have estimated the largest military. Among these, the US has the highest amount of military expenditure. The United States spends more on its military than any other nation comparably. Governments and countries around the world are trying with their best efforts to have a reduction to this military budget. Even after all these efforts of proposals and offers, the total military budget that resulted in 2021 of the US was US$ 2113 billion. A nuclear-weapon-free- zone refers to countries coming to an agreement where they will not have any type of connection with nuclear weapons. The Islamic Republic has spent $24.6 billion as estimated and is ranked 15th out of all the countries with military expenditure which is more than Israel, the most developed in military equipment and weapons. The nuclear-weapon-free-zone refers to an agreement that governments of countries conclude with no process, production or connection in building nuclear weapons or equipment. There have been many treaties signed for the nuclear-weapon-free-zone. These could includeThe treaty of Rarotonga on August 6 1985, the Treaty of Bangkok on December 15 1995, the treaty of Pelindaba on April 11, 1996 etc. The Middle East Nuclear Weapon free zone treaty mentioned earlier is similar to the other proposed treaties. Steps towards the establishment of nuclear-weapon-free zone started in 1960 and were later accelerated by a joint declaration of Iran and Egypt in 1974 when Iran officially introduced the term nuclear-weapon-free-zone in the Middle East in the UN General Assembly. This was then reintroduced in 2006 by Iran's President Ahmadinejad in the Middle East. But in 2014, Iraq, Iran and Syria have been found to oppose IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) safeguard obligations under NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty). The GC (General Conference) of IAEA adopted a resolution following the previous resolutions to strengthen the process of Nuclear-free-Zone treaties in all the states of the Middle East or to strengthen the needed actions to be done there in no time.
