Medal and Mission Model Petty has developed a model of assessment which is medal and mission model. The term “Medal” means that the feedback from teachers either the learners have done well or not. Grades or marks cannot be included in the area of medal. Medal is totally a different thing which is done by commenting by teachers. On the other hand, “Mission” is about what things are required for the learned in order to correct or improve or work on the mistakes of the learners. Again, there is no use of measurements in mission. By using this model in assessment, the idea of certain action plan can be gained. Also, there is a chance to clarify about goals which is used in the assessment process. Moreover, this model does not believe in planning, rather it believes in execution too. So, it builds a bridge between learning and execution. As per medal and mission model, a student can know where they are actually doing well (medal) and also can recognize their mistakes (mission). Teachers often follow this model to give an idea to students about where they should work on more. When students will get the idea of their area of improvement, they also should know about the comparison of how they were before and how much they are improved now. Moreover, in order to hold the motivation of students, medal and mission feedback is used rather than grading sometimes in the assessment process. Because, feedback is one of the major facts for students in assessment which is given by teachers.
