These injuries may have been caused by contact with hazards like moving machinery or hot surfaces but serious injuries have also happened from less obvious events like catching rings when climbing ladders. The Purpose of this policy is to enforce BP Sharjah’s requirements on the wearing of Jewellery at all operational assets as well as to eliminate the associated injuries. This Policy applies to all personnel working outside of an office environment and applies to all PPE Zones. Instruction: The wearing of jewellery that can lead to an industrial injury whilst engaged in work activity shall not be permitted. This policy is intended to cover: Finger rings and facial jewellery Medallions, necklaces and bracelets (other than copper bracelets) All core staff & regular visitors are expected to comply with the removal of all jewellery. First time visitors to BP Sharjah assets may be permitted to tape over rings if they cannot be removed. However for any subsequent visits to site, rings shall be removed. Watches and copper bracelets worn for medical reasons must be kept secure and not loose on the wrist. Watches which are worn should have a weak link wristband, in order that they will break/shear in the event that they are caught or trapped. When working on electrical equipment all metal items must be removed, including watches and bracelets, with no exceptions. References: N/A SHJ-5000-BP-HS-POL-0001-A1 Page 2 of 2
