As you watch: • Does the news report have a structure? • What language choices are made? Think: tense, words, sentences Write down what you notice for discussion MENTOR TEXT 1: NEWS REPORT NEWS REPORT STRUCTURE • A news report will tell us information about something that has happened, and include: – WHO was involved – WHAT happened – WHEN it happened – WHERE it happened – HOW it happened • The most important and attention grabbing information goes at the start MENTOR TEXT 1: NEWS REPORT NEWS REPORT LANGUAGE A news report will be written in PAST TENSE I jumped in fright. They were doing the dishes. A news report is often written in THIRD PERSON They stole the car. She was enjoying her breakfast. Why? MENTOR TEXT 1: NEWS REPORT YOUR TASK: You are going to: 1. Come up with a crime. Plan: – WHAT the crime is – WHO committed the crime – WHEN and WHERE the crime was committed – HOW it happened 2. Script a news report DUE: YEAR 9 CRAFTING TEXTS: WRITING TASKS EXPECTATIONS OF WRITING TASKS As part of your completion of this unit, you MUST complete all set writing tasks. We will be creating a folio of writing and you MUST keep all writing tasks that we do. We will be using our writing later in this unit to learn how to be effective editors and to help us prepare for the CAT. Your teacher will take up all work at the end of each lesson/week to make sure you do not lose anything and to help you make your folio of work.
