Introduction
Bobby is very difficult to buy presents for and now tells anyone who asks that all he wants is ‘moola’. (This
did cause some confusion when his grandfather sent him a singing cow for his birthday instead of money).
His family now tends to give him money, in the form of cash (coins and notes) for his birthday and Christmas
presents.
Bobby finally got into the school’s 1st XI football team. He would like to buy himself a pair of Nike goalkeeper
gloves and a Netherlands National Team football shirt with his birthday money.
Task
Use the following information to explore whether Bobby has enough birthday money to buy the goalkeeper
gloves and football shirt. Comment on any things that might help or hinder him with this.

Bobby knows that for his birthday his grandma always gives him $45.
•
His aunt always sends him $30AUD.
•
His New Zealand aunt will share her Christmas bonus of $280 in the ratio of 9:2 (Aunt : Bobby)

Last year his mum gave him $55 and this year she will increase this by 16%, rounded to the
nearest dollar.

Bobby’s sister, Ella has a babysitting job. She will do 6 hours of babysitting for $13.50 per hour.
