Compare and contrast the two stories
How human emotion played for a problem but how it comes out to a solution
Contrary to so many mythological cosmogonies and stories where the gods directly intervene in
creating the world, in Taíno mythology the gods leave it up to the people to create the world by
provoking human emotions. In The Golden Flower, a Taíno myth, humans lead to the creation
of the island of Puerto Rico because of curiosity, where a child plants seeds to create a forest,
to the greed of two humans over a pumpkin once it begins to grow. Because they lose control of
the pumpkin, greed is displayed negatively. However, there is no punishment for this human
display of emotion. Instead, the sea is formed and the island of Puerto Rico comes to be. In
How The Sea Began, something similar happens: human curiosity of Yayeal’s bow and arrow
lead to a broken gourd and the sea forms. Therefore, Taíno mythology displays non-interfering
gods who let humans figure things out by themselves.

This website talks about the Tianio people and Yayael. It's not the same story as the one
we read but it gives more information on him. I am going to use this to put more information on
Yayael and his impact on the people from the myths we read and how he is told in this one.
“Taino Indian Culture.” Welcome to Puerto Rico!,

This website goes into how the Tianio people lived and what they were as people. Along
with how things changed in the year ahead. It also talks about getting colonized and what they
went through. I am going to use it to talk about how the people were and tie in human emotion.

In this site the guy jose talks about the Tianio people and how the caribbean came to be
and how they have occupied the area for a long time. I am going to use this to talk about how
they saw the land and what they had and can relate it back to what the myths say and how it
relates.
