List the parts of the Leaf.Epidermis, Phloem,
Where in the leaf (what layer) does most photosynthesis take place? In the mesophyll
What is the name of the structure that allows water, CO2, and oxygen to move in and out of the
leaf? In the Stomata.
What is the name molecule (pigment) embedded in the thylakoid membrane that attracts
sunlight? The Chlorophyll
What color wavelength of light is reflected by chlorophyll? Green.
What gases do plants release through their openings?
Photosynthesis occurs in which organelle? Chloroplast.
List all the parts (stages) of photosynthesis. Light Dependent and Calvin Cycle
Where do the Light Dependent reactions occur in the chloroplast? Granum
What happens during the Light Dependent reactions? The energy of sunlight is absorbed by the
chlorophyll and converted into chemical energy,
Where in the chloroplast does the Calvin Cycle take place? The Stroma.
Where do plants store excess sugar? In the Phloem
Cellular Respiration occurs in which organelle? The Mitochondria
Why are the membranes inside the mitochondria folded? To have room for the other organelles.
What gas is released (from your mouth) due to Cellular Respiration? Carbon Dioxide.
What is the energy molecule for the cell? ATP
How is energy stored in ATP? When chemical bonds are stored in chemical energy in the bonds
between phosphate groups. How is it released? It is released when a phosphate bond breaks.
List all the parts (stages) of Cellular Respiration. Glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and ET
Where does glycolysis take place in the cell? Cytoplasm How many ATP are produced? 2 ATP
Where in the mitochondria does the Citric Acid cycle take place? In eukaryotic Cells How many
ATP are produced? 2 ATP
What are the other names for the Citric Acid cycle? TCA and Krebs Cycle.
Where does the Electron Transport Chain take place? In Cellular Respiration How many ATP are
produced? 36-38
What does the term “aerobic” mean? When glycogen is broken down to produce glucose. What
does the term “anaerobic” mean? Something that doesn't require oxygen to produce energy.
What are the 2 names for the pathways the cell takes to produce energy WITHOUT oxygen?
Lactic Acid and Alcoholic Fermentation.
List the 2 types of fermentation. Lactic Acid Fermentation and Alcoholic Fermentation.
Which type of fermentation occurs in human muscle cells? Lactic Acid Fermentation Why does
this cause soreness? It causes LAF to use energy so it causes LAC to build up in the muscles
which makes the muscles feel tired and sore.
Write out the Photosynthesis equation. Light energy+ Co2+H20-O2+Glucose
Write out the Cellular respiration equation. Glucose+O2-Co2+Water+36-38ATP
How are these 2 equations related to one another? They are the opposite to one another
Cellular Respirations goal is to Make glucose to produce energy and Photosynthesis goal is to
make glucose to produce energy,
What type of organisms use respiration to produce energy? ATP
