Activity 2 – On Channels of Communication An important part of the communication process is applying communication management skills to recognize the appropriate channel of communication in your organization. Following protocol will help you identify standards for making appropriate communication choices. Identify which channel of communication (letter, memo, formal e-mail, phone call) should be used for the following situations and why. (5 points each) A. Asking a colleague where to find information about the school policies. In this situation, we can only use text messaging, chat, phone calls, or face-to-face conversation because we will only ask where to find information about the school policies. We can use it as informal communication. Through these channels, we will know the answer to our question faster, as well as provide follow-up questions and clarifications. B. Confirming a meeting time. We can confirm the meeting time through text messaging, chat, phone calls, email, or face-toface conversation. This is a quick way for you to confirm the time of the meeting you will attend. Here you can ask for additional information that will be needed at the meeting. C. Writing a summary of minutes from a meeting. This situation requires a formal means of communication. We will need information in writing the minutes of the meeting and using of a letter and formal email and good to use in this situation so that we get reliable and credible information about the meeting. D. Forwarding information to a parent. Sending information and communication to parents is vital in school-community partnerships. This information can be forwarded using text or chat messages, phone calls, and face-to-face conversations where you can receive questions and clarifications from parents immediately. It is also be forwarded through formal letters if an urgent response is not necessary. Submitted by: RONALDO M. YABUT
