Operational Cabin Cleaning Manual
1
Scope of Manual
Cleaning is divided into Basic Cabin Cleaning and Operational Cabin Cleaning.
While the Operational Cleaning is carried out after every leg flown, the extensive
detailed Basic Cleaning takes place after a set amount of flight hours (Cont A/C every
500 flight hours; Intercont a/c every 800 to 1000 flight hours by LHT or a
subcontractor). Basic Cleaning is performed by different providers at the stations. In
2014 Basic Cleaning Light will be introduced in FRA and MUC for Intercont A/C and
will take place between two Basic Cleaning events, i.e. after 500 flight hours.
The contents of this Cabin Cleaning Manual refer to the Operational Cabin
Cleaning and are applicable for all stations with local cleaning and their providers.
2
Introduction
The Cabin Cleaning Manual gives all stations a consolidated overview of established
operational cleaning procedures and standards and is intended to support the
stations with the preparation of new procedures.
At the beginning of the manual you will find general information about the licensed
cleaning liquids, the equipment and general guidelines to the cleaning
companies.
In the next chapters you will find information about the Cont and Intercont Cleaning
concept, as well as detailed job cards to every cleaning type / to every cleaning
area, as well as specials for the different aircraft types.
The Cabin Cleaning Manual specifies all qualitative demands on the cleaning
performance at the stations.
3
General information
The following chapter gives an overview of the cleaning materials approved for
Operational Cabin Cleaning as well as the cabin cleaning equipment. Furthermore, a
summary of the general guidelines for the cleaning companies is included.

NOTE: Important information for B747-8: Since Boeing used a sensitive plastic material for certain
B747-8 interior parts, only certain detergents (Turco 5948 DPM, Celeste Interior Cleaner Complete)
are allowed for interior cleaning to avoid cracks and impairment of these parts.
The detergent must be diluted as follows before use: mix 20 ml cleaning agent with 1000 ml water. For
stubborn dirt a dilution of 1 part cleaner with 2 parts water can be used if followed by immediate wipe
off with clear water. EXCEPTION: for cleaning of all seat tables please use only Tegesin !!!!!
(Dilution: 1 part cleaner, 10 parts water).

General guidelines for the cleaning companies
 Make sure that cleaning personnel starts cleaning in due time.
 Make sure that cleaning is finished and cleaning personnel has left the
aircraft before passengers are boarding.
 Make sure that the start of boarding and the departure are not delayed
(according to the defined Lufthansa Minimum Ground Time).
 If the aircraft is in such a condition that it is not advisable to board passengers,
make sure to agree with the Commander, the Purser and the Operations
Supervisor upon how to organize the activities in a way to minimize the delay.
 Take care that emergency exits or pathways are not blocked by cleaning
equipment or debris.
 First Class Bar Unit: this is a highly sensitive area. Do not deposit any cleaning
equipment or waste here and refrain from using the unit as a writing area, e.g.
for filling in forms or lists. Marks and scratches must be avoided.
 Ensure that items containing liquids in open containers (e.g. buckets)
are always to be placed outside the aircraft (in the jet way / on passenger
stairs).
 If liquids are used for cleaning inside the aircraft, liquids must always be
used with care and in very limited amounts.
 Never pour liquids on to the aircraft floor for wiping.
 Cleaning of the cockpit should be supervised by the cockpit crew,
supervisory staff of Lufthansa or of the handling agent, respectively, all
the time.

Cleaning Cont
The information in the following chapter is valid for all cont aircraft types.
4.1
General information
Three different types of operational cleaning exist:
•
Home Base Cleaning (HB) - takes place
- at the hubs (FRA, MUC)
- following flights with a block time > 130 minutes
- between decentral and decentral at the aircraft’s home airport
(valid only until flight routes are transferred to germanwings)
•
Non-Home Base Cleaning (NHB) – takes place
- to the hubs (FRA, MUC)
- from continental Europe to Germany with a block time < 130 minutes
(valid only until flight routes are transferred to germanwings)
•
Night Stop Cleaning (NS) – takes place
- at all stations if the aircraft stays overnight, and thus NS ensures that the
aircraft receives a full cleaning once per day

5.4.1
First Class
Two new F/Cl seat products will be installed on all intercont aircraft types step by
step:
- new F/Cl seat product (A380, A330, A340 and B748)
- new F/Cl retrofit seat product (B744)
Both seat products are more complex than the previous F/Cl seat.
Especially the cleaning of the New F/Cl seats on A380, A330, A340 and B748 is
challenging as the cleaning staff has to move the seat into different positions in order
to clean it properly. An optimized cleaning process has been designed to make
cleaning of this seat product as easy and efficient as possible. Following the process,
cleaning staff will be able to clean the cabin in the fastest way without damaging any
of the high-quality materials.
