Working Inside Confined Space FOR DETAILED INFORMATION REFER TO SOP: SULBQHSE-P-24 Definition: Has limited or restricted means for entry or exit (e.g. tanks, vessels, excavations “More than 1.2 m deep”, etc.), for addition information refer to page 16 in the procedure. Requirements to work in a confined Space but not limited to the following: 1. Standby Man to monitories authorized entrants, he shall be the preliminary alarm raiser and contact emergency services in case of an incident occur. 2. Gas Tester, a trained and authorized who has completed gas detection and monitoring training and/or is authorized by the department manager. 3. The LEL must not exceed 10% of Methane Gas in the approved personal gas detector device. Confined Space Register: 1. All confined Space shall be recorded in the confined Space Entry register (Sulb-QHSE-F-33) and must be available to all workers on the site. 2. Location of the confined space, 3. Relevant P&ID number if required, Each Department will be responsible for maintaining the confined space register Barriers: The User Department will be responsible to ensure all confined space entry points locked or have barriers or guards installed preventing unauthorized entry. Falling objects ANY OTHER HAZARDS, SPECIFIC TO A PARTICULAR CONFINED SPACE Note: the issuer shall determine and record the gases to be measured and the frequency of repeating the test or the need for continuous monitoring, the minimum requirement shall be CO, O2%, LEL% ”Methane” and H2S in the PTW. Before entry 30 minutes and every hour thereafter. Recommend to have a continuous gas monitoring. THE EXECUTOR HAS THE RIGHT TO REFUSE THE PERMIT IF THE PROPER GAS TEST WAS NOT DONE. For accurate testing the air movers, blowers and A/C have to be switched off for a minimum of 5 minutes. Breathing apparatus shall be provided to the workers where it is not possible to provide a safe oxygen level. It is preferred to use 24 Volts lighting system, not to take welding machine power supply cables inside and use electrical tools, light grinder/ drilling machine having a power supply cables with no damage or joints. This is to avoid accidental electric shock.
