Critique for Queen’s Gambit At the beginning of the series we are introduced nine year old Beth Harmon being taken to an orphanage after she survives a car crash accident, after she was taken to an orphanage she met Miss Lonsdale, Mr. Fergussen, Ms. DearDoff, and Mr. Shaibel, who introduced the leading actress to chess. The series depicts a pressing issue of discrimination that is still present in today's society, as well as the idealism for women's embodiment in our society. The series Queen's Gambit does have a line that says "Girls don't play chess" and "We don't have a women's section," It depicts Beth being mocked for her gender, with people questioning why a woman should participate in men's sports or why women should focus on themselves. The series shows that even though there are women, they can have rights to everything, even though it is not considered a feminine activity. The series certainly starts with the issue of how women should be seen in our society and gender discrimination, portraying how a woman should act or what the correct idealism for every woman should be. It also covers the issue of feminism. Every woman should fight for her own rights; she should not be afraid to try new things; and she should have the courage to step out and face reality. This was shown by Beth, who, despite the fact that many people do not respect her, she does not take it seriously and instead keeps playing chess until everyone respects her for who she is.
