A. PLUS Ethical Decision Making Model
Therac-25 was covered in Lecture 3.
Apply the PLUS Ethical Decision Making Model to this case.
B. Character-Based Decision-Making Model
Apply the Character-Based Decision-Making Model to both the
London Ambulance Service and Therac-25 cases. Record what has
arisen from applying the steps of the Model to each case.
C. Ethics regarding installation of software
Lecture 4 covered BSA’s slides, sample software policy and sample
memo to employees. These have been placed at the Lecture 4 area.
Read through the sample software policy. Write your answers to the
following questions:
1. The policy describes a lot of “what not to do” regarding
software installation. What you can pick up from this policy
that employees are allowed to do?
2. What should an organisation do about managing storage
media, software licenses, software documentation, CDs, and all
other material associated with software?
3. The policy mentions the “CIO” numerous times.
a. Who is the CIO?
b. What responsibilities does the CIO have according to the
policy?
Read through the sample software memo to employees. After
reading both the software policy and the memo, what concerns do
organisations have about unethical installation or use of software?
Search the web to find software policies of two organisations. Avoid
university sites so that the policies are those found in the corporate
world. What similarities can you find between each of those
company policies and the BSA sample policy?
