I have chosen the theme “Geographical, regional and dialectal varieties of American English”. The relevance of this topic is that students in Russian educational institutions learn British English, so American English, especially his dialectal varieties, can be very hard for understanding. It also creates barriers in communication, that causes problems not only in professional sphere, but also in personal life. According to this current theme would be relevant for different categories of people. It helps to expend knowledge of English in general. The object of the work is American English. The subject of the work is of geographical, regional and dialectal varieties of American English and their differences. The purpose of this work is to find general information of different varieties of American English and to know how to distinguish them (phonetically, first of all). To do this, I have to solve a number of problems. They are: To understand how America is divide according to the dialects To find out specific characteristics of each dialect To find what influenced these differences To study vocabulary and grammatical features The main research methods are: o Analytical method; o Comparative-contrastive method; o Method of linguistic description. The Social Stratification of English in New York City and other his works - Cambridge Dictionary of American English Structure of the work: the study consists of an introduction, two chapters, conclusion and a list of references. The introduction reveals the actuality of the topic, defines the goals and objectives of the work, describes the material and methods of research, substantiates the practical and theoretical meanings of this work. The first chapter examines geographical varieties of American English and 3 broad dialect areas – northern, southern and middleland. The second paragraph examines vocabulary and grammatical features of each particular arear and dialects, rural and urban areas. Urban areas New Yourk and Chicago. The conclusion contains brief summary on the results of the work.
