Attacks of panic can be extremely frightening. You might think you are going to die, have a heart attack, or lose control when you have panic attacks. • Stress - Children who have experienced abuse, trauma, or witnessed traumatic events are at high risk of developing an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders can also occur in adults who have been through a traumatic event. • Stress brought on by illness - A severe illness or health condition can cause significant anxiety about your treatment and future. • A buildup of stress - Excessive anxiety can be brought on by a significant event or a buildup of more minor stressful life circumstances, such as a family member's death, workplace stress, or persistent financial worries. • Personality - Anxiety disorders are more common in certain personality types than others. • Other Mental Health Conditions - Anxiety disorders are frequently present alongside other mental health conditions, such as depression. • Having close family members with anxiety disorders - Anxiety disorders can run in families. • Alcohol or drug use - Anxiety can be exacerbated or caused by drug or alcohol use, misuse, or withdrawal.
