N4066V This is a early production 1948 Cessna 170. It went missing from the FAA registry in the early 1980s. The plane was originally bought by a business man who had the wing ‘metalized’. The fabric was removed and replaced with a metal skin. The plane was flown privately for many years until it was bought by a pair of Air Force pilots stationed at Norton AFB. The plane made its final flight by the pair in the early 1980s when they put the 170 into the rocks at Mentone Municipal airport. The left gearbox was severely damaged and the plane went into storage. A local mechanic bought the plane and removed the wings so it could be worked on easier but declining health forced him to sell 4966V. The plane changed hands at least two more times being stored at the owners home. Pacific Union College became the owner for several years using it in their aircraft maintenance program. When the plane was no longer wanted it was sold one more time to a mechanic in Oregon. This time it was finally returned to flying condition after considerable work.
