Student learning profile My favourite economist, Adam Smith once said, “The first thing you have to know is yourself. A man who knows himself can step outside himself and watch his own reactions like an observer.” Time passes day by day and my secondary school life has come to an end. As an eighteen-year-old juvenile, transforming to a young adult,i have grown a lot throughout these three years and the past experiences have greatly deepened the understanding towards my own ability, interests and myself. For the past two years, I was the Civil,National and Global (CNG) ambassador and was responsible to share some hotly-debated social issues, both regionally and internationally with my schoolmates. It requires me to be sensitive and highly aware to things around me so that i can promptly disseminate the latest news to my fellow schoolmates. It trains up my analytical skills as i have to process all the information and generate the most important summary. In addition, it has also enhanced my presentation skills, since i have to share the issue in front of hundreds of students and teachers. With numerous times of practices, i have mastered the techniques to speak fluently in English and confidently regardless of large audience. Furthermore, as i have encountered countless global issues, being the CNG ambassador has expanded my knowledge and provided me with opportunities to see things on a global and all-rounded perspective. For instance, the G20 Summit in 2016 report made me have a better understanding on how various governors discuss policy issues to promote international financial stability. I am sure that these economic and global knowledge i have accumulated could be beneficial for my further study in university. To further broaden my horizons in the global business environment, i joined several exchange programmes including the Beijing-Tianjing, Shenyang-Dalian as well as Singapore-Malaysia exchange tours in 2016. I have visited the well-known multinational technology company, Baidu’s headquarter in Beijing. I have learnt how the managerial professionals manage such a large enterprise and the marketing skills they adopted. In addition, i have visited the CRRC Dalian Co. which is the company responsible for producing railway locomotives for MTRC in Hong Kong, it made me realise that globalization and specialization could take place and facilitate trading around the world. Whereas for my trip to South-East Asia, i was able to explore the differences in economic condition and business culture there, as well as the reason for the rapid economic development in Singapore. These trips were both pleasurable ,educative, and reassured my passion as well as interest in economics and business. Along with the valuable experiences i have gained,I longed to become an entrepreneur. Thus, i have participated the IET/MATE Hong Kong Underwater Robot Challenge and presume the role as the chief financial officer in the company me and my groupmate established. To have effective control over operating expenses and material cost, i have to search for the cheapest raw material with high quality and have regular review on our company’s spending so as to ensure we are in budget and will not overspend. Aside from that, i was also responsible to promote the robot we built. Through the marketing process, i learnt how to attract potential customers and cacter their needs so as to maximize our company’s profit and maintain a sustainable harmonious relationship with the customers. All the skills i have acquired in this competition are useful in my future career and have made me understood more about the real life business model. In a nutshell, the previous non-academic experiences i went through in my high school life allow me to find out the field that i am interested in. Along with the textbook knowledge i have learnt, i will spare no effort to equip myself and get prepared for my university life as an business student, which ultimately, i can become a successful entrepreneur and overcome all the difficulties in the market.
