Recruitment Process of AWS There are four steps in the process: online application, assessments, phone interview, and in-person interviews. i. Online application It starts with finding the right job for us. we Visit the AWS careers page to search by location, job categories, or keywords. After finding a role we are interested in, we apply for the role. Some online instructions guide us through the rest of our application. ii. Assessments Depending on the position, the candidate is asked to take an assessment during the application process or they would send it after we had applied. The number of assessments will depend on the role we apply for, and in some cases, they must be completed within a certain timeframe. The two common types of assessments are work style assessments and work sample simulations. Work style assessment These questions are centered around Amazon’s peculiar culture and Leadership Principles. For example, they may ask us to choose which statement represents our work style: "I like for things to be clearly structured,” or “I look forward to the opportunity to learn new things." These assessments typically take 10-20 minutes to complete. Work sample simulation we’ll be asked to complete virtual tasks related to the position we’re applying for. This may include making decisions based on their Leadership Principles, completing activities critical to success at AWS, and demonstrating problem-solving, prioritization, and interpersonal skills. In some roles, we may be asked to interpret data from a chart, answer a customer question, choose how to resolve an issue, or find the right information from multiple sources. These typically take 20-60 minutes to complete. iii. Phone interview These conversations will cover our experience, including past situations or challenges we've faced and how we handled them. We should focus on the question asked, and ensure our answer is well-structured, and because AWS is a data-driven company, we should provide metrics or data if applicable. Throughout their interviews, they avoid brain teaser questions because they found them unreliable for predicting a candidate's success at AWS. Instead, they focus on behavior-based questions that ask about our experience and work style. They strive to get back to us within two business days after the phone interview. iv. In-person interview Out of an abundance of caution due to the pandemic, in-person interviews are currently conducted virtually. Their interview loops are a series of conversations with topic experts, future colleagues, and neutral parties called bar raisers. The bar raiser is focused on long-term vision rather than the immediate hiring need and serves as an objective third party to ensure every candidate's interview experience is open, accurate, and fair. This mix of interviewers allows them to get a clear sense of both our professional expertise and are we are a fit for their company culture.
