Graduate Quality Reflection I chose the graduate quality: ‘critical thinking and problem solving’, as I believe this quality is strongly tied to my values and ethical framework, as well as being pertinent to my career. As I am pursuing a career in mechanical engineering, critical thinking and problem solving lies at the core of this field. This is why this graduate quality is important to me, as the more I develop my thinking and problem-solving skills the more I will be equipped to solve real world engineering problems and excel in my field. I also believe this GQ strongly shapes my values and ethical framework. In my last reflection I discussed how I tend to take the “consequentialist approach” as I try to consider how a decision may impact all those involved. This approach clearly goes hand in hand with problem solving and critical thinking, wherein developing this GQ will allow me to develop my ethical framework too. ‘Theme 1’ of this course has made this connection apparent to me, as I had never considered that my ethical framework would be impacted like it has by my career choice, or vice versa. Theme 1 has also shed light on other ethical frameworks, which has let me compare how my approach may differ from others.
