DP Journal Week 1 i. An Assessment and Evaluation Method I feel confident about An assessment and evaluation practice I feel confident about is the continuous assessment policy at my school. At the start of each academic, we do a diagnostic test on our students based on English language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking). The skills are divided into standards, so we test and group students into a level based on their performances. For example, being able to analyze key details and ideas in a text for different purposes is a standard in reading. After the diagnostic test, I group students into Mastery, Secure, Developing and Emerging for each standard/skill. As I continue to teach and assess students regularly, I move students from one level to another based on their progress. At the end of the term, I get a clear picture of students’ strengths and weaknesses for the curriculum standards. The result helps as a self-reflection tool for me and to redesign my lesson plans for the next term. ii. What I find difficult about Assessment and Evaluation I find it challenging to design differentiated assessment tasks and provide effective feedback on assessments. I teach an ESL class of 120 students who are non-native English speakers. These students have different learning styles and English-speaking abilities. It's been challenging for me to design assessments that meet their individual needs. iii. What I have question about I have a question regarding giving feedback on students' work. Our school requires teachers to write feedback daily. They expect us to write two things students have learned and one thing to improve on their work. Although it's very challenging, I try my best to write feedback but fail on rigorous follow-ups. What is the best way/strategy to provide students with timely, effective feedback and follow-up? 2. What I would like to see as learning outcome for this course At the end of the course, I should be able to develop assessment strategies, design assessment tasks and rubrics, design differentiated assessments and provide effective feedback on students' work. 3. Something you need to know about me I am an enthusiastic learner who enjoys teaching. I consider every feedback as a glow and growth opportunity. Thank you in advance for your guidance and support throughout this course. Monday 30th January 2023
