[00:10:01.240] Chosen for his discourse. [00:10:03.600] Do you have the evangelizing spirit? [00:10:08.000] If someone uses the term evangelizer or. [00:10:12.280] Evangelist, what feature normally comes into the. [00:10:15.720] Minds of people in the community? [00:10:18.240] Well, they may think of someone who. [00:10:20.680] Has a tent in a park that is stirring up persons and one wanting. [00:10:26.320] Them to give themselves to the Lord Jesus. [00:10:29.320] Or perhaps they might envision TV evangelist. [00:10:34.600] Someone who is trying to reach their. [00:10:37.160] Heart and asking them to dig deep into their pockets. [00:10:41.920] Well, of course, for most of us here this morning, we realize that the. [00:10:46.680] Word evangelizer has nothing to do with those concepts because an evangelizer [00:10:53.000] is simply, according to the Bible, someone who tells good news. [00:10:58.320] And of course, as Jehovah's people, we have the greatest news to tell others [00:11:03.960] that soon all this horrible system that we're living in will be removed [00:11:09.480] and replaced with a beautiful new system of things or a new world. [00:11:14.280] It's interesting to note that in the. [00:11:16.480] Scriptures, if you look at the large. [00:11:18.440] Reference Bible, you'll notice a footnote to. [00:11:21.680] Ephesians, chapter four, verse eleven, [00:11:23.920] where it says that an evangelizer is also a missionary. [00:11:29.840] So if we think of evangelizer, we think of missionary, a very similar term. [00:11:35.920] But now let's think about the question. [00:11:38.200] That we raised at the beginning. [00:11:40.160] Do you have the evangelizing spirit? [00:11:44.160] Now what do we mean by evangelizing spirit? [00:11:48.760] You see, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. [00:11:51.120] Perhaps you have used the term quite often. [00:11:54.560] We have the pioneer spirit of the evangelizing spirit. [00:11:58.040] But if you are new to the. [00:11:59.560] Congregation, perhaps you're not familiar with Jehovah's Witnesses. [00:12:03.080] You might wonder, what on earth is the evangelizing spirit? [00:12:08.360] Well, to answer that question in a. [00:12:10.400] Very simple way, we could ask someone who was a very good [00:12:14.520] evangelizer, and that was the Apostle Paul. [00:12:17.160] So if you like to take your Bibles and turn with me to One Corinthians [00:12:21.720] chapter nine and verse 23, one Corinthians nine and verse 23. [00:12:30.160] And here the Apostle Paul describes what [00:12:35.120] really is involved with having the evangelizing spirit. [00:12:40.880] But I do all things for the sake [00:12:43.880] of the good news, that I may become a sharer of it with others. [00:12:49.640] That's the evangelizing spirit your whole life is involved with using [00:12:55.920] whatever opportunity you have to tell others about the good news. [00:13:00.280] Now that's very encouraging because some of. [00:13:02.800] Us are able to do that every day. [00:13:05.640] Others cannot do it every day, [00:13:07.640] perhaps due to family responsibilities or maybe health restrictions. [00:13:13.600] But the thing is, [00:13:15.440] if you use whatever opportunity comes your way to tell others, [00:13:19.480] whether it's once a week or whether it's once a month or whether. [00:13:22.720] It'S every day, you can truly say you have the evangelizing spirit because you want [00:13:28.640] to help others and tell them about the good news. [00:13:32.320] Now, what is the good news or this evangel that we need to tell others about? [00:13:39.000] Well, again, I'm sure there's not one [00:13:41.320] of us in the audience, even including our little ones [00:13:45.240] that doesn't know what Matthew 24, verse 14 says. [00:13:49.000] This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited [00:13:54.680] earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. [00:14:00.000] Now, we know that scripture very well. [00:14:02.400] But that is what the good news is all about. [00:14:05.160] The fact that Jesus is ruling his King in heaven in the midst of his enemies. [00:14:10.880] Soon we're in the period of the. [00:14:13.120] Last days and soon all these wicked. [00:14:15.960] Things will be taken away. [00:14:17.040] Now that is good news, isn't it? [00:14:20.440] And if we truly believe that good news, then we want to tell others about it. [00:14:25.480] Jehovah's Witnesses as a group, [00:14:28.840] as a religion, as an organization are well known. [00:14:33.600] For preaching the good news. [00:14:35.600] You know that. [00:14:37.640] Even the world knows that. [00:14:39.600] You've probably seen many cartoons or funny little jokes that have been made [00:14:44.160] about Jehovah's Witnesses when discussing this. [00:14:47.920] I remember an experience I had while. [00:14:50.520] My wife and I were witnessing in Tasmania. [00:14:53.720] That's where she comes from, in Australia. [00:14:56.600] And one day I was going from. [00:14:59.200] Door to door, I knocked on the door. [00:15:01.400] And the door opened, it was a Catholic priest. [00:15:05.600] Now, of course, that was a little surprise for me and this priest, [00:15:10.560] as soon as I started speaking, he said, Stop, don't say another word. [00:15:15.600] He said, I'm going to ask you a question. [00:15:18.080] Tell me in one sentence why you've come here this morning. [00:15:25.200] Now, if someone challenged you that way, how would you answer? [00:15:30.120] Tell me in one sentence why you're here. [00:15:33.800] Well, I basically paraphrased Matthew 24 [00:15:37.080] 49 and said, I'm here to tell you the good news of God's kingdom. [00:15:41.160] He goes, he wasn't impressed with the answer. [00:15:48.400] Then he explained to me that he was from Holland originally [00:15:53.160] in the Netherlands, and he became a priest there. [00:15:56.040] Then he went to France and then he listed [00:15:58.040] a whole number of African countries where he served as a missionary priest. [00:16:03.320] And then eventually he was near retirement [00:16:06.000] and they sent him to Australia and he ended up in Tasmania. [00:16:10.920] So he'd served in all these different [00:16:12.680] countries and he said to me, you know, in every country I've been, [00:16:18.440] I have met Jehovah's Witnesses and I have asked them the same question [00:16:23.960] and you are all so stupid that you gave me the same answer. [00:16:32.640] Well, we found that very encouraging. [00:16:36.960] If that's stupid, I'm happy to be stupid. [00:16:41.120] Then his next question was, [00:16:43.040] can you show me anything from the Bible that relates the kingdom to the earth? [00:16:49.160] And I said, well, what about the Lord's Prayer where Jesus [00:16:52.280] said, let your kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as in heaven? [00:16:56.160] And he said, Wishful thinking on Jesus part. [00:17:00.600] And that was the end of the conversation. [00:17:04.120] Well, the point is that just like that priest acknowledged begrudgingly, [00:17:09.800] jehovah's Witnesses are well known for their preaching activity. [00:17:13.920] How many times have you had people say [00:17:16.760] to you, you know, you people are doing what my church should be doing? [00:17:22.720] I think you're totally wrong. [00:17:25.760] You're apostate, you're antichrist, [00:17:28.200] but you are doing the work that we should be doing. [00:17:31.280] Have you had people say that to you? [00:17:33.440] It is quite common for that to happen. [00:17:36.240] And in our first assignment in Tasmania, my wife and I were witnessing [00:17:42.000] to a Socalled bornagain Christian and he made that comment. [00:17:46.320] He said, you know, I think you people are [00:17:49.720] totally wrong, but you're doing the work that should be done and we can do it. [00:17:56.840] So I said, well, that's interesting. [00:17:58.760] Are you planning to do it? [00:17:59.840] Yes, we are planning to do it. [00:18:02.000] Well, a few weeks later, [00:18:03.160] I met him again and I said, how's your preaching work going? [00:18:08.040] So we gave up on that idea and I said, Why? [00:18:12.720] Said, well, every house we went to, people ask us, Are you Jehovah's Witnesses? [00:18:19.440] And we couldn't stand it anymore, it was so discouraging. [00:18:24.080] Well, of course my answer was tough, but you see the point, a well known point, [00:18:32.000] that Jehovah's Witnesses, when you think of them, you think of the preaching work. [00:18:36.160] Yes, as an organization, we are evangelizers. [00:18:40.680] But remember, the question we posed was, are Jehovah's witnesses evangelizers? [00:18:46.160] No. Do you have the evangelizing spirit? [00:18:50.600] So even though as an organization, we are well known for having [00:18:54.920] the evangelizing spirit, what about us as individuals? [00:18:59.280] Do we still have that evangelizing spirit? [00:19:02.360] Well, let's turn to the words of the apostle Paul. [00:19:06.240] In fact, his last letter that he wrote under inspiration to Timothy. [00:19:11.440] It's the second book of Timothy, chapter four and verse five. [00:19:18.000] Second Timothy, chapter four and verse five. [00:19:23.560] Now, here Paul was near the end of his earthly life, [00:19:28.440] writing to this dear son of his and trying to give him some admonition. [00:19:36.200] Now, by this point at this point, [00:19:38.360] Timothy had been an elder, a missionary, traveling overseer. [00:19:43.160] He had appointed other men as elders. [00:19:46.280] And yet notice what Paul said to him. [00:19:49.400] You, though, keep your senses in all things, [00:19:54.120] suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer fully accomplish your.ministry
