How do you feel about academic integrity at ANU? Is it different from what you did in your previous study, or fairly similar? Remember to use your previous study experiences to explain your answers. I learned a lot about the academic integrity that ANU values and wants students to practice in every academic works. In fact, I was not taught about the academic integrity in such proper way in the school and I just learnt by myself in the Uni, my country. Hence, I realized my own mistakes such as not acknowledging the authors and source even though I paraphrased and plagiarizing the assignment to some degree. Now I got to comprehend the tips how to keep academic integrity and prevent incidents of plagiarism for my future study in ANU. As a result, one thing I will remind of myself is that I will execute the honest practices whenever I approach my assignments keeping in mind the five academic values of ANU. How have you used academic sources in the past within your academic writing? Considering what you've learned about using sources, how do you plan to further develop your academic voice in your writing? In the past, what I used to do when I paraphrase was that I just changed some words and structure of the sentence and I thought the paraphrased idea was my idea and argument. I didn’t cite for the quote in the right format. I just learnt a lot from the IAP class regarding the right format we should follow certain rules. It’s imperative carry out the note taking for key points, main arguments and quotes of the author and based on that, I should paraphrase the text. There are four tasks in sourcing where there include quote, paraphrasing, summary, and synthesis depending on assignments. It is noted that paraphrasing should be done for one idea in the shorter text whereas summarizing goes for more two points of the longer text. In text citation is crucial depending on the idea and information prominent and style guide where page number should be displayed for any quotation. To raise my voice or find the author’s voice, I’m going to seek for linking words, adjectives and contrasting idea. So that I can plan to raise my voice based on reading with purpose, key arguments, paraphrasing, quotes, summarizing, synthesizing and using linking and contrasting words. How do you feel about referencing at ANU? Do you feel overwhelmed by the requirements, or fairly confident? Remember to use your previous study experiences to explain your answers. Before attending the IAP classes on referencing, I have always been confused on referencing. I came to comprehend all stuff during the class. I didn’t differentiate the in-text citations based on author and idea prominent. However, now I can apply such rules in accordance with my discipline and style referencing guide. To generate the reference list, I used to use the Microsoft word. In future I am going to use the Endnote for my academic assignments. Regarding the style guide, I used to use APA and I was not quite confident in referencing for different sources. Now I learnt the differences between key various style guides where I will follow the style of Harvard AGPS since my discipline is economics, but I will always check out with my lecturer. I was fooled with the citations suggested by the article before. Now I learnt it’s wrong. One more thing I learned in the class was about the Turnitin, the text-matching software that I never learnt. In future, I will use the Turnitin to promote my academic integrity.
