Topic 3 Discussion Question 2
Successful implementation of change depends on the framework instituted by the project
manager that would formulate a systematic methodology towards the approach. Planning and
implementation processes are always clouded with uncertainties considering the inevitable
outcomes after incorporation of a change initiative (Galli, 2019). There are many models to
facilitate change, but in my discussion I will focus on ADKAR and Lewin’s Change
Management model. The components of change include managing organizations’ transitions,
shift, and transformation which should be guided by a technical procedure that is sensitive to the
needs of functionality and success.
ADKAR is an acronym standing for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability, and
Reinforcement. Based on this model, prior to the implementation of change there should be the
consideration for awareness in terms of the identifying the need for change followed by
supporting the need by creating as Desire for change (Galli, 2019). One then develops
knowledge on how to change which is then followed by demonstration of Ability through skills
and behaviors to promote implementation. Lastly, the model emphasizes on Reinforcement for
solidifying the change. On the other hand, Lewin’s model focuses on three main stages including
unfreeze, change, and refreeze. Unfreeze focuses on identifying the need for change, change
phase involves the application of the EBP within the practice context, and refreeze focuses on
stick the change into the organization’s culture (Galli, 2019). Lewin’s model is the best for my
evidence-based practice (EBP) proposal which focuses on educating both post-op patients and
providers on hand hygiene as a technique to reduce the spread of nosocomial infections. The
model is simple and systematic since it involves only three steps, focuses on solidifying the
3
change initiative, and encourages the incorporation of quality improvements along the
implementation process.
