The past can hurt, but the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it
- Rafiki
Your past makes you who you are today. Every small thing you do is a learning experience
from the past. You might have tripped on a stray rock in the middle of the road while looking
at your phone. These situations and experiences make us learn so much, subconsciously.
These past experiences are also tied with emotions and how we felt at that particular
moment. Your subconscious learnings are so useful in your day-to-day lives, but imagine the
impact it could have on your day if you did it consciously.
If we record our important moments in the present for our future selves, it can prove to be
immensely useful. This is because our past helps us understand everything. It helps us
understand ourselves better, our surroundings, and most importantly, it teaches us how
change works. We should record these important moments for these reasons. It may seem
like we are being critical or pessimistic, but they will prove ultimately helpful in the future.
As I mentioned before, we subconsciously shape and learn about ourselves in every
moment. The year 2020 was a trainwreck in all ways, but what have you learned from it?
2020 was a year of self-love, patience, and, of course, laziness. Like 2020, each year will
help you learn something new.
Here are some fun and exciting ways to record your past:
1) Vlog your trips and moments
Vlogging or video logging your essential moments is one of the best ways to record the past!
It is like reliving that moment when you come across those videos, it is almost like taking a
time machine to the past. This requires some technical knowledge and devices though. They
can also be harder to record for older people. It also requires a lot of storage, as the videos
accumulate over the years.
2) Keep a journal where you note down everything you want to remember about a specific
day.
A journal of sorts can be the most relaxing thing you can do at the end of the day. The effect
of writing down your happenings cannot be described. This way is one of the most nicest
and comforting ways to record your past for the future.
3) Plan your days ahead and see how they change over time
This is a very rare and experimental way of recording the past as you can see the thoughts
and ideas change over time. This way of recording your past may not be time-efficient, but it
helps you understand yourself and how your life /day moves on a daily basis.
4) Record audio of every decision or idea you have
In my opinion, an audio recording of a joyful decision or anything in life is one of the best
things to do. This is because the memory and knowledge you gained from that moment is
visualized in your brain, how you want. The audio is the only thing provided. This makes it
beautiful and it also solves the problem of storage, as the audio files are very small in
storage.
5) Narrate your important moments and happenings to friends and family.
Narrating your moments to friends and family is so fun and joyous. The reactions and
thoughts given by your friends are ones to cherish. This is a very personal way of recording
your moments as it is actually not stored anywhere else but in your and your friends’ brains.
You are also more likely to remember your happy moments when you narrate them to
someone. It is like reliving that experience.
I hope this article was educational, fun, and creative! I look forward to utilizing these
methods in my own life, and to seeing you, the reader, use them as well! See you in the
future and let’s discuss what we learned from our past.
Thank you,
