CORONAVIRUS Epsilon variant Presentation prepared by Soloviov Ihor, II year student of NMU, faculty M1 group 10115 First detected in USA, California Found among 1230 samples collected from the beginning of the epidemic Detection Timeline 04 Rapid frequency 02 decrease caused by more transmittable alpha variant in Fevruary 2021 No significant activity until September 2020 01 03 July 2020 First detection By January 2021 50% of cases was Epsilon variant Epsilon variant cases in world as of 01 July 2021 Found among 45 countries NUMBER OF CASES Confirmed cases Last reported case date USA 50,723 23 June 2021 Mexico 474 08 June 2021 Canada 326 07 May 2021 South Korea 103 26 April 2021 Aruba 57 24 April 2021 After USA, there are 400+ reported cases in Mexico, the secondhighest globally Total 51 966 cases 50 723 of them (97,6%) in USA (mostly California) And in other Countries (From 1 up to 474 cases) Mutations of epsilon variant The variant has five defining in the ORF1ab gene and spike protein's S-gene. I4205V In the ORF1ab gene D1183Y S13I W152C In the spike protein's S-gene Conclusion The epsilon variant of coronavirus was ~20% more transmittable then previous one and for some time was “variant of concern” by WHO, but has been supplanted by a more contagious alpha strain in short term of time. Any variant of SARSCoV-2 is still very dangerous, so the best thing is to follow the prevention measures Thanks for your attention! Follow the prevention measures and stay healthy
