QUESTION 1
1.1 For lasers and drills, surgical equipment, jewelery in crowns and industries.

2.1 A certificate or digging license.

2.2 All the diggers have dug and searched for diamonds and claims subsequently
collapsed because they were dug so deep and wide.- hence the name Big Hole. (2)
2.3 By setting the tents and liquor stores on fire.

2.4 After 1871 blacks were no longer allowed to be diggers, they had to carry passes
and they were ordinary workers that earned lower wages.
It was expected of them to work from sunrise to sunset for lower wages.

to work.

2.6 They could not afford expensive machines so they could not reach the deeper
diamonds.

2.7 The walls that separated the claims, collapsed. It has become difficult to
distinguish one claim from another. Fights broke out. There were no safety
regulations. Hard rock fell on miners and they were injured. Diamond ground as
deep as 300m could not be reached with their hands.

2.8 Great machines were necessary to collect the diamonds, the water level was
reached and the claims became full of water.
