Jalipa Submitted by: Villegas, Kent Harvey N. “Reflection Paper” The Nature of Art The Nature of art tells us what art really is, art is not just paintings and performances, art is not just creation, and art is not all about beauty. Art is more than what we think of it. Art expresses emotions, it is both beautiful and ugly. Art is born to satisfy our desires because humans always desire something. As a student, art is how you live your life, there are times life can be so unpredictable like painting an abstract, life is detailed like sculpting a Greek goddess, life is like a song sometimes sad sometimes happy and sometimes deep. However, the true nature of art is within us, how we see things from our own point of view. We live our lives differently and our experiences throughout make our lives a work of art. The Function of Art There’s always a reason behind the art, artist makes their art as an extension of their feelings on how they feel at the moment. Some artists create art for people to address their needs. At some point in our lives, we need something to satisfy us or to address our needs. Art is one of the needs we want, art has a lot of functions and one of them is for us to express ourselves freely. Art makes the lives of millions easy and convenient, art creates opportunities for those people hiding behind their shells to come out, and art is a bridge for people to understand each other. There is a lot in art, but the art that helps us be better is what I love the most. The Subject of Art Art is created through a subject, the subject of art is the artist’s inspiration to create that art. Subjects can be a person, a place, or an object as long as an artist can create something new and creative out of those subjects. We also live our lives with a subject, some live their lives as the person they admire. Having the inspiration to create something can push us to unexpected results. For me the subject of my life is my mom, she is a very supportive, hard-working and loving mother. She is the one that inspires me and pushes me towards achieving my goals in life, and art is the same. Without the subject of art, we cannot appreciate the true essence of art. I am not an artist but, I was born to create art that I will perfect someday. The Origin of Art The origin of art dates back centuries before, in the rise of human beings. Human beings developed their desire to create something useful for themselves. Before hunting prey can be done by creating weapons out of rocks, we scavenge the wilds with hand-made weapons like spears, and then we discovered fire. That’s the beginning of art. Like me, before I discovered myself in the midst of my adventures in life, I too had an origin. It took me years to become the current me, I encountered many obstacles along the way. Because at some point we are nothing but through our will and hope to survive to have a better life, we become something with a purpose. And art is part of it, art has been always part of our origins and art comes from nothing also. That’s why I will keep on improving myself to be the best art created by God.
