Outline 5 Relevance of the School Curriculum to the Teacher Teachers Standards The minimum levels of practice are described as Standards that beginner teachers must meet under the following three categories: 1. Professional Value and Attitudes: According to the NTS Guidelines, teachers should be guided by legal and ethical teacher codes of conduct in their development as professional teachers. 2. Professional Knowledge: The teacher should understand how children develop and learn in diverse contexts (cultural, linguistic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds) and apply this in their teaching. 3. Professional Practice: The teacher should employ a repertoire of learning strategies in order to meet the learning needs of all children through the application of relevant resources. Relevance of the School Curriculum to the Teacher Teachers’ knowledge in the curriculum will help them to recognize and prioritize the needs and aspirations of societies. It will help teachers to identify and understand the learning needs of learners and apply teaching accordingly (Methodology). It will help teachers to see the need to engage in creative and dialogic instructional practices. Teachers will recognize and respect the diverse backgrounds of learners. It will enable teachers to address the need to promote an inclusive educational system where individual strengths and potentials are valued and maximised, The curriculum informs teachers about the ultimate goal of the entire educational program and to work diligently towards it. The teacher is obliged to instill in learners the importance of making responsible choices relating to the environment and climate.
