Impact of Demand for cigarettes on tobacco production
Introduction :
Tobacco is the common name of several plants in the genus Nicotiana of
the family Solanaceae, and the general term for any product prepared from the cured leaves of
these plants. More than 70 species of tobacco are known, but the chief commercial crop
is Tabacum. The more potent variant Rustica is also used in some countries.
Dried tobacco leaves are mainly used for smoking in cigarettes and cigars, as well
as pipes and shishas. They can also be consumed as snuff, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco,
and snus. Tobacco contains highly addictive nicotine as well as harmala alkaloids. Tobacco use
is a cause or risk factor for many deadly diseases, especially those affecting the heart, liver,
and lungs, as well as many cancers. In 2008, the World Health Organization named tobacco use
as the world's single greatest preventable cause of death.
Usage Of Tobacco
Tobacco are predominant use for cigarettes and other smoking products. Tobacco has always
been considered as a medical plant because before it was used as a smoking material, its has been
used as a traditional medicine for common illnesses. Like tobacco smoked was used to treat
earaches.
Side Effects Of Tobacco
Nicotine in Tobacco is highly addictive. It makes your brain release a chemical called dopamine.
Dopamine is a ‘feel good chemical that:



makes you feel happy
helps you to concentrate
gives you more energy.
But these chemicals are not good for health it can cause of cancer, heart attack, and liver
failure and they also use for many other different drugs which are more harmful then cigarettes
The demand of Cigarettes In Pakistan
Pakistan has a large population of tobacco users, with about 24 million adults consuming tobacco
products in one form or another. Pakistan is among the high-burden countries with respect to the
prevalence of tobacco use and its suggestions for public health. According to the Global Adult
Tobacco Survey 2014, 19.1% of adults in Pakistan used tobacco in any form, which translates
into a population of about 24 million adults.
Cigarettes are an addiction that people
can not stop buying except there are other
factors that affect it. For Example,
Pakistan’s Economical Situations are not
stable. There are various time increases in
the prices of commodities and taxes ratio.
If the pack of cigarette price is 60rs then a
person smoke 9 cigarettes in a day. The
Government increases tax on the cigarettes
and now the price of the cigarettes is 90 rs now the person change their smoking habit rather they
smoke 9 cigarettes they are starting smoking 6 cigarettes after times ago government increased
the tax again then that person can’t afford it and it’s an addiction so that person are trying to
move to any other brand which absolute their satisfaction.
It clearly shows that the consumption of the cigarettes depends upon the price of the cigarettes
and income of the consumer. Because it’s an addiction so consumer may be switch to any other
brand or may be less their consumption .
If comparison of demand of cigarettes in Pakistan and many other countries. Then there are
different kind of demand of cigarettes because every country have different rule and regulation
related tobacco industry in many country Cigarettes are banned and many other countries you
can’t smoke openly and in front of any other person whom is non smoker .
Different Cigarettes Companies have different demand . Because every cigarette Company have
different Target Audience . For Example :
There are Two Famous Cigarette Brand In Pakistan one is Dun hill and Captain they both having
