Diana Camacho May 23, 2022 Com-1 [Persuasive speech rough draft] [Why you should consider becoming Vegan.] Topic: Why you should consider going vegan. General Purpose: To persuade. Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience about considering going vegan because it betters your health. 1. Introduction a. Did you know that the consumption of processed animal meat can possibly increase your risk of cancer by at least 18%. b. According to www.verywellhealth.com , 1 hotdog or 4 strips of bacon can contribute to risk ofb possible gastric cancer. c. I am personally credible because I am currently in the process of becoming fully vegan. I am currently vegetarian and slowing stopping my consumption of any animal products. d. Today I would like to discuss with you the benefits of Veganism for you. Also, propose your possible consideration of starting your process into veganism as well. We can begin by discussing the problems of living in a country who majority of the population consumes meat 2. Body Problem The first problem with this would be your health. If you are the typical American (like me) who normally shops at big brand grocery stores and normally tries to get their items for the cheapest price, you could be facing a real problem when it comes to the food items that you are buying. Many of the meats at the store, especially the cheap ones, come from animals that are not pasture raised and are not being fed the correct foods. They are being pumped up with hormones and all kinds of things we don’t know about. Why ? You may ask. Because it makes that animal grow faster than it should. Yes it helps with feeding more people. However, this means you too, are eating chemicals that are being injected into these animals and could be causing you possible long term health problems. This can all be explained to you in the documentary on Netflix called “what the health.” I highly encourage you to watch this documentary for your benefit and for the benefit of others. Solution The solution for this would be to stop consuming meats and animal products that are extremely processed, aren’t pasture raised and organic. I know that may sound very hard or even unrealistic for some but nature has us covered. There are so many meat substitutes that taste almost identical to the real thing. Some meat alternatives could be seitan, mushrooms, jackfruit, tofu and even watermelon. Benefits The benefits of veganism would be great health. A Harvard study tells us that when turning to a plant based diet, it can lower your risk of type 2 diabetes by 23%. They also found that people who also follow this diet lower their risk of prostate cancer by 35%. Plant based diets could also prevent 11 million deaths per year. 3. Opposing arguments. Many people may argue plant based people don’t get all the nutrients they need, for example, protein. Protein is a very crucial part of the human diet and many people think that you can only get it from meat. Same with B-12 vitamins. However, they can be found in plants. Protein can be found in beans, broccoli and flour. B-12 can be found in the milks of rice, soy and coconut. If you are lacking a vitamin, there are many companies that sell organic plant-based vitamins. All the nutrients that you need can be found in plants. So, in conclusion… 1. Conclusion We discussed just how bad the meat process from birth to your plate is. The solution would be going plant based for a healthier life. So if you would like a healthier lifestyle, lowering your disease risk and just feeling better in general, starting your journey to a plant based lifestyle would be the best first step. You or someone you love doesn’t have to be part of that percentage. https://www.peta.org.uk/blog/how-going-vegan-helps-stop-climate-change/ https://www.whatthehealthfilm.com https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/with-a-little-planning-vegan-diets-can-be-ahealthful-choice-2020020618766 https://livingtheveganlifestyle.org/best-vegan-foods-with-vitamin-b12/
