2. Description of Business
2.1 Our Geographical Coverage
Our Jetstar stoves and fuel products are suited for urban and peri-urban areas. Our
initial planned deployment is in Lusaka, Copperbelt and North Western Province. As the
product achieves market acceptability, we shall scale up to other regions.
We shall establish distribution centres for our product in Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe and
Solwezi. To reach customers, we shall partner with kiosks owners as distribution agents
for our fuel and stoves.
2.2 Hours of Operation
The expected working hours for the branches and agents shall be from 08:00 hours AM

2.3 The GEI-JETSTAR Cooking Solution
GEI is partnered with Omnitech Industries (Pty) Ltd to develop and manufacture the
GEI-Jetstar Clean Cooking Stove powered by methanol fuel.
GEI-JetSTAR Modern Clean Cookstove © 2023
5
The JetStar initial design is a one-plate methanol-fuelled stove
that is designed for cooking and water heating purposes. All
high temperature components of the stove are made of
stainless steel, all low-temperature components of the (e.g. the
legs) are made from high quality galvanized mild steel (PRE-GAL
Z275) with anti-slip rubber pads at bottom of the three legs. In
JetStar stove, primary air-flow for combustion purposes at the
high power level is supplied to the device via a 6mm diameter
air inlets situated on the burner head. For the low power setting, air-flow is supplied
through a 3mm diameter inlets. Power is adjusted by moving a small hand lever
between the air inlets, to open or restrict air-flow.
The GEI-JetStar stove is made from stainless steel comes with a 1-year product
guarantee and 4-years life span. The stove is powered by methanol fuel, which is
contained in a completely safe 500ml sealed bottle, which cannot be opened by
children or accidentally consume. One 500ml fuel bottle can give approximately 6hrs
cooking time. The methanol fuel used by the JetStar stoves is superior to
paraffin/kerosine, safer, healthy, environmentally friendly, green and cleaner, does not
produce fumes, is easy to use and fuel refill and last longer. The product has the
following;



Patented Intellectual Property (IP)
Patents for stove and safe fuel filling system secured
Sustainable Energy Technology Research Centre (SeTAR), University of
Johannesburg, testing confirmed at a facility
authorized and supported by Global Alliance for
Clean Cookstoves (GACC).
 Affordable methanol gas usage, less volatile and
more efficient
 Methanol fuel and stoves are supplied through a
dedicated agency network, thereby creating
further job opportunities.
The cooking solution is an ideal substitute for
paraffin/kerosine powered stoves or charcoal burning because of its health and
environmental benefit and is cost-effective and efficient.
The solution also answers the call for COP27 of ending deforestation and forest
degradation.
2.4 The Innovativeness of Our Solution
The test results of the JetStar stove indicates highest tier-4 performance of IWA 11:2012
which provides a framework for rating cookstoves against tiers of performance for a
GEI-JetSTAR Modern Clean Cookstove © 2023
6
series of performance indicators, including recommended for clean cooking
cookstoves CO2 emissions:
 fuel use ( thermal efficiency),
 emissions (total carbon monoxide and particulate matter MP2,5),
 indoor emissions (carbon monoxide and particulate matter 2,5) per MJ, and
 Safety aspects.
The fuel canisters do not have bottle tops, like conventional fuel holders for kerosene or
ethanol. The canister is perforated using a spine-like metal protrusion situated at the
centre of combustion zone, upon which the entire contents are emptied into the stovetank.
Subsequently, the canister is not reusable as a storage bottle after use. It is a safety
measure taken to prevent children from drinking the content of the canister (i.e.
methanol can easily be mistaken as water). Methanol is a poisonous liquid, which,
when ingested, may lead to permanent vision impairment. The canisters are recycled,
and thus clients may deposit the bottles with distribution agents when buying a new
one and qualify to earn points which are redeemable in future upon accumulating
ZMW20.00, a cost for e new fuel bottle.
GEI’s long-term plans and solution scaling up intend to set up a methanol refill plant in
Lusaka to avoid delivery logistics. We also intend to establish a plastic recycling plant
for fuel bottles and other plastic waste.
Considering the above performance implies that the JetStar is an innovative and
aspiration product that possesses the highest rating to meet targets and usage for
human health and environmental protection.
The majority of solutions on the market and our direct competition provide ethanol,
LPG and charcaol fuel, also electricity energy. Our product uses methanol as a source
of fuel.
The benefits of using methanol as a source of fuel include:



Lower production costs—Methanol is cheap to produce relative to other
alternative fuels.
Improved safety—Methanol has a lower risk of flammability compared to
gasoline.
Increased energy security—Methanol can be manufactured from a variety of
domestic recycled carbon monoxide-based feedstock’s, such as biomass and
hydrogen from natural gas, and coal.
3. Why This Cooking Solution?
Studies have shown that Zambia’s deforestation rate is among the highest in the world,
with an estimated 200,000 hectares cleared annually. This is as a results of over reliance

7
of charcoal as a source of energy of the majority of Zambians. The use of charcoal is a
primary driver of deforestation and forest degradation in Zambia due to its dominant
role in household cooking across all income levels.
The dangers of using charcoal for cooking or heating water is that it may lead to
respiratory and cardiovascular health conditions and deaths attributable to household
air pollution.
Our vision as GEI-Power is to improve people’s lives through provision of scalable and
sustainable renewable energy solutions and protecting the environment.
GEI’s JetStar clean cooking solution and methanol fuel is solving and tackling main
problem of deforestation and forest degradation by providing an alternative to
charcoal usage, and addressing reduction in health conditions attributed to house air
pollution from charcoal burning while improving people’s lives and well-being.
4. Areas of Impact
Environmental Issues
Around 30% of woodfuel harvested globally is unsustainable and Zambia’s
deforestation rate is among the highest in the world, with an estimated 200,000
hectares cleared annually. The use of charcoal is a primary driver of deforestation and
forest degradation in Zambia due to its dominant role in household cooking across all
income levels.
The goal of the GEI-JetSTAR clean cooking solution is to reduce charcoal energy
consumption in urban and peri-urban areas of Zambia (inclusive of Lusaka), and
catalyze an increase in the use of low or zero emission alternatives to charcoal
technologies and/or fuels.
Climate.
Greenhouse gas emissions from non-renewable woodfuels for cooking amount to a
gigaton of CO2e per year, representing about 2% percent of global emissions, on par
with emissions from aviation and shipping. Our solution will contribute towards
reduction in CO2 emissions, addressing global warming.
Livelihoods
Up to 30% of household budget is spent on cooking fuel due to reliance on inefficient
energy stoves; lost opportunities for income generation ventures due to time spent.
Our product is modern affordable, clean and efficient compared to charcoal or any
other alternative solutions currently on the Zambian as a source of fuel and is faster in
cooking, it will aid reduction in fuel expenditures and financial generation due to time
savings in cooking. Our marketing strategy to engage shops or stores, women

marketers and youths as distribution and sales agents for our stoves and fuels, this will
offer more job opportunities to help with income generation (commissions) via fuel and
stoves sales.
Gender
Use of charcoal disproportionately affects women and children due to firewood
collection, fuel processing, cooking, and post-meal clean-up associated with gender
roles. The JeTStar cooking solutions offers health wellbeing benefits and time saving
benefits for women and children, giving them time to engage in other productive
activities.
GEI will achieve these goals by ensuring that the JeTSAR Stove and methanol fuel is
easily accessible, affordable, and acceptable by the community in which we
operates.
5. Marketing
5.1 Market Analysis
Our immediate customer base will primarily consist of those within the urban and periurban of Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola and Solwezi and we shall eventually pursue expanding
into retail markets and other towns out of our own storefront affiliated with the shop in
local shopping malls and markets.
5.2 Customer Analysis
Understanding of the market dynamics with regards to alternative to charcoal fuels is
critical to the success of deployment of our solution.
GEI is offering a JetStar clean cooking solution within Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe and Solwezi.
We plan to deploy the product to these urban and peri-urban towns with
concentrated population.
Most consumers in urban and peri-urban uses a practice what is called fuel stacking
with combination of use electricity, charcoal and firewood.
Thus, here below is our target market;


Age: 18-65
Status:
o High Income: 36% aspire to use LPG and thus would be a good target for
encouraging them to switch to our modern affordable and efficient


cooking using electricity, charcoal and other LPG solution. We target to
encourage them to switch to JeTStar stove replacing LPGs and charcoal.
o Low Income: 45% of the households are cooking using charcoal, 25% are
cooking using firewood and Charcoal and only 18% of the Household use
electricity.1
Location: Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe and Solwezi
Below is a profile of the needs that our target customers have:

Quality & Efficient: Strong and durable stove powered by clean and efficient

50kg of charcoal.

Accessibility: GEI shall partner with local marketers, shops and youth as agents
for distribution of the stove and methanol fuel within the areas of operations.
5.3 Competitive Analysis
When analyzing competitors, what we look at are products and services that deemed
affordable, accessible, available and acceptable by the consumers. These include
Charcoal, Biomass and LPG. The range of the products are as follows;
a) Charcoal Sellers: Charcoal is available in all local markets and mobile sellers. The
users of charcoal say it is easily accessible, it is affordable, and they also say that
it is faster for cooking certain meals.
b) Electricity: Electricity is the most widely used energy for cooking, especially since
its deemed to cook fast and thus saves time. Also, when available without
persistent or intermittent load-shedding and is affordable by most consumers
across income levels, it's the biggest competitor for our JetStar cooking solution.
c) LPG, Ethanol & Pellet Cookers: LPG, Ethanol & Pellet fuel has gained
considerable market acceptance over the years with LPG, Ethanol & Pellet
cooking stoves sold in local markets. Except for ethanol, some LPG in its
production process emits a considerable amount of CO2. Several Pellet fuelled
stoves use wood cut-off can encourage deforestation.

5.4 Our Direct Competitors;
a) Thomro Investments is an ethanol company based in Lusaka that secured an
initial investment of $1 million to establish a micro-distillery capable of producing
91,250 litres annually (serving an estimated 4,345 households) from molasses and
cassava feedstock. However, investors eventually withdrew due to a lack of
market readiness for ethanol cooking fuel and to date the plant is only
producing 25 litres per hour. Thomro are currently constrained by a lack of
investment to purchase the remaining equipment to fully operationalize their
plant and establish a supply chain to transport the fuel to market. They intend to
retail ethanol cooking fuel through existing charcoal sellers at a price of ZMW 19
per litre ($1.14). The company imports clean cookstoves from Durban, South
Africa.
b) Kainos Green Energy is a solar and ethanol company operating in Lusaka and
Luanshya. They have established an operational distillery capable of producing
12,000 litres annually (serving an estimated 571 households) of 190 proof ethanol
from molasses feedstock. They distribute their product through a small number of
selected retail outlets, as well as offering deliveries for orders over 20 litres. As of
2021, one litre of ethanol was retailing at ZMW 15 ($0.9). The company is
currently constrained by lack of storage space, inadequate transportation, and
inability to access shelf space in supermarkets for their product. They have also
been unable to access an ERB license as they produce below 2000 litres per
day, which is contributing to their inability to access shelf space in supermarkets,
as retailers are wary over the quality of their product. Kainos has trained two
artisans to produce ethanol cookstoves (see image below) to sell to consumers.
5.5 Other Notable Competitors
a) Dread & Works Enterprises: Cookstoves uses biomass fuel;
b) SupaMoto: Clean-cooking uses wood pellets sawdust from pine and
eucalyptus sustainable plantations as fuel;
c) Lynch Farms and General Supplies: Clean cooking uses Biomass (Ag.
Residue, Processed Biomass, etc.), Charcoal, Crop residues, Electricity, Pellets
/ Briquettes, Solar;
d) Sunbird Bioenergy: Clean cooking stoves uses bioethanol fuel; and
e) ENGIE Energy Access (EEA) Zambia: Formerly Fenix International their Fenix
Mbaula stoves uses charcoal.
5.6 Advertising and Promotions
We intend to advertise in local publications, as well as provide signage along highway
frontage. In addition to word of mouth, we also intend to place ads online on various
social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. advertising, which has
GEI-JetSTAR Modern Clean Cookstove © 2023
11
already help us so far in find more than enough potential customers waiting patiently
for us to open.
Print advertising in local newsprint would be advisable to let consumers know about
services. The planned sales and distribution, and marketing through retail stores in the
urban and peri-urban areas, an attractive flyers, labels should be produced for them.
To enhance sales, point-of purchase promotional literature and signage may also be
necessary.
To develop and print brand image and to conduct some initial “stores opening soon
campaigns” advertising, an initial budget of $10,000 with an annual budget of $6,000 is
assumed. One can get quite extravagant with label development and printing to
where the budget could be at least doubled.
GEI-Power Limited will use the following tactics to attract new customers:

Gift Vouchers- We make our own Gift Vouchers for promotion campaigns and
special occasions and holidays.

Online Marketing- We push paid ads on our Facebook, direct marketing to
LinkedIn contacts and attract traffic to our website for the business.

Word of Mouth- We will rely on people spreading the word about our products
and location of the shops and how great sales customer services after they
have tried our product and services.
6. Financial Model
Our key revenue drivers are the sales of stoves and the recurring methanol fuel sales to
our clients. The recommended monthly minimum efficient fuel consumption is between
10-15 bottles of methanol per stove (meaning per one stove sold, we expect to
generate a minimum ZMW2,400=00 ($140) per annum and a target of 1,000 customers
in year 1, total fuel sales ZMW2.4M (US$140k)).
Regarding technical faults or malfunction of cookstoves within the warranty period, to
be serviced under the warranty terms and conditions, and any other servicing and
fixing of the fault cookstoves after the warranty, a minimal fee is to be charged. In
summary, our revenue model has four streams of income;
1. Sales from cookstoves;
2. Recurring Sales of the Fuel;
3. Repair and maintenance of the faulty stoves; and
4. Sales from cycled plastics waste to manufacturers of plastic products.
The recurring sales of the methanol fuel will be our main revenue stream.
