STEPS to Apply to the College and the Associate Degree Nursing Program
1. Applying to the college: An applicant’s first step is to apply to the college. Applying to the college is a separate process from
applying to the program. You can apply to the college online by going to www.jefferson.kctcs.edu and select the “Apply” link,
then follow the directions from there. Be sure to submit all official transcripts to the Admission’s Office, when applying to the
college. When selecting a major, use either Health Sciences Technology or Associates in Applied Sciences. Once you are
accepted & enrolled into the A.D.N. Program, we will change your major to Nursing. If you are a student that has not taken any
classes for one or more semesters, you must apply to the college again, in order to be eligible for enrollment and for your KCTCS
email account to be activated. If you are currently enrolled at another KCTCS college, transfer of your Home Campus to JCTC
must be done AFTER the current semester grades are posted.
2. Preadmissions Conferences (MANDATORY to attend one): It is necessary to attend a preadmission’s conference in order to
receive an application to the program within 48 hours of having attended a conference. It is important that you register no later
than 8:00 am on the day of the conference and use an active email address. You also need a student ID; therefore, if you do
not have one, please apply to the college first. It is necessary to remain for the entire session. If you are more than 10 minutes
late, you will have to register for another conference.
Only students who are ready to apply to the Nursing program should attend one of the mandatory preadmission’s
conferences. You must attend a Preadmission’s Conference within six months of the application deadline. If you are not yet
ready to apply to the A.D.N. Program or if you have transcripts from another college to be evaluated, please see an advisor in the
Advising Center and they will let you know which classes will transfer, that are required for the nursing program. However, it is
ultimately the Admission’s Office that approves transfer credits. The Advising Center office hours are posted on their web page
at https://jefferson.kctcs.edu/current-students/academic-resources/advising-center/index.aspx Appointments with the advisors can
be made by emailing to jf-advising-center@kctcs.edu The Advising Center is located in the John T. Smith Library, Building B,
room 215, (physical address is 622 S. First Street; however, the front of the building faces Second Street).

REQUESTS FOR TRANSFER
FROM ANOTHER NURSING PROGRAM
Students requesting to transfer into the JCTC Associate Degree Nursing Program from another nursing program, including credit for
previous nursing coursework, must provide proof of passing grades in all previously attempted nursing courses, (passing grade as
established by the nursing program where the grade was earned). Applicants previously admitted to another nursing program,
and who have earned a failing grade in any nursing course will not be accepted for admission into the A.D.N. program at
JCTC. However, you may apply as a new student starting at the beginning of the A.D.N. program. Potential candidates must
meet all admission requirements of the JCTC A.D.N. Nursing Program as outlined on page 4, in this Program Guide. If it has been
more than three years since initial enrollment in the first nursing course in any registered nursing program, an applicant must repeat all
nursing courses.
Beginning summer 2015, Jefferson Community and Technical College will no longer conditionally admit transfer students; students
will be required to submit ALL official, postsecondary transcripts to the Admission’s Office prior to enrollment at Jefferson
Community and Technical College. JCTC will require official transcripts even if the student does not plan to use the coursework to
satisfy the requirements for the Nursing Degree for the Nursing Program. Prospective students must also submit an online application
to the College. Applying to the college is a separate process from applying for the Nursing Program.
Requirements:
Three months prior to the expected date of enrollment:
1. Potential candidates must provide a written letter stating the reason for transfer, and anticipated placement within the
program.
2. Proof of regional academic accreditation of any college(s) previously attended for which the student is requesting transfer
credit. (Credit from proprietary, non-regionally accredited schools is not eligible for transfer credit.)
3. Informal/unofficial transcripts from all previously attended colleges.
At least two months prior to the anticipated entry date:
Submit a Nursing Transfer Admission Packet, which includes:
4. From the previous nursing program: overall nursing program curriculum plus individual course objectives, course outlines,
syllabi, and skills/competency list from all nursing courses completed at the previous nursing program. Please note that
there is no standard curriculum for nursing programs or nursing courses, so this information is crucial to establish
compatibility of the previous nursing courses with those of JCTC and to determine how much, if any, nursing course
credit can be granted to the student.
5. At least two letters of recommendation from the previously attended nursing program. The letters must be signed, dated, and
printed on the school letterhead; one from the Nursing Program Director and one from a recent Clinical Instructor, indicating
that the student is in good academic and financial standing. These may be emailed directly to:
Email to JF-NursingInfo@kctcs.edu
6. Acceptance of any Transfer Student will be dependent upon available resources, comparability of previous nursing courses,
vacancy in the receiving course.
7. Proof of being on the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) State Registry as a Nurse Aide (SRNA). Recommend keeping
SRNA current throughout the nursing program in case of need to apply for readmission.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
(Upon acceptance into the A.D.N. Program)
Once an applicant is accepted into the Nursing Program, official copies of all previous transcripts, must be requested by
the student from the original school and sent, unopened, to the JCTC Admission’s Office. It is the student’s
responsibility to ensure that all previous transcripts are on file with the Registrar at JCTC. (Please DO NOT send official
copies of transcripts to the Nursing Office; once they are opened by anyone other than the Admission’s Office, they are no
longer official and will have to be resent.)
Mandatory Orientation All students that are accepted to the A.D.N. Program are required to attend orientation, which is
held one day, the week prior to the start of classes. Students will be notified of the specific date in their letters of
acceptance, which are emailed to their KCTCS and personal email addresses.
Immunization and Physical Examination Requirements will be due upon admission of submitting an application:
This is a one-time fee of $25.00 and the account belongs to the student for life, which is used to track verification of
Immunizations and additional documentation such as CPR certification. Documentation is uploaded to CastleBranch.
In order to apply to the program, the student must submit a Physical Examination form and verification of
immunizations, which must be signed by the health care provider. Do not submit immunization records to the
nursing office with your application; they will not be processed by the Nursing Division Office. They will be
uploaded to CastleBranch by the student.
 Influenza during flu season, between August 1st and October 1st; documentation of vaccination will be required
by October 15th each fall semester or upon entry into the program in the spring semester
 MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella)
 TB (Tuberculosis) screening-Two-Step: step one, vaccine given then read after 48-72 hours, step two, repeat
step one between seven to twenty one days (not one day earlier and not one day later)

months after 2nd dose). Or (series of 2 doses of Hepsaliv-B given at least 4 weeks apart). The student may attend
clinical once the series is started with the first dose.
 Physical Assessment on JCTC’s form (will be on page 3 of the immunization packet when notified of acceptance).
 COVID release and COVID Vaccine requirement.
Criminal Background Check (BC) and Drug Screening (DS) will be due after acceptance.
There are specific codes that must be used with CastleBranch and they will be given to students when they are
accepted.
All incoming nursing students will be required to complete a national Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening
according to the Allied Health & Nursing Division Policy and Procedures. The policy and directions for this procedure will be
supplied in the acceptance packet, for admission. Failure to comply with this requirement by the designated deadline may
result in dismissal from the Program.
The cost is $61.20 through CastleBranch, a background screening and compliance tracking solutions company.
 Completion of criminal background check (instructions and a deadline date will be specified in the students’ letter
of acceptance to the Program, which is sent by email). If clinical placement is not possible due to a criminal record,
the Program Coordinator will notify the student by email and the student will be permitted to withdraw rather than
failing the course due to the inability to fulfill course requirements.
 Completion of required drug screen (instructions and deadline will be specified in the students’ letter of acceptance
to the Program, which is sent by email).
 Failure to comply by the specified deadlines may result in the student’s removal from the class roster.

Computer Requirements: Examplify: Minimum System Requirements
MSRs for Windows, Mac, and iPad
Students and exam-takers downloading the test-taking software, Examplify, should review these Minimum System
Requirements (MSRs) to ensure their devices are supported. Examplify works with most modern computers, both Mac and
Windows operating systems. Examplify will not run on Chromebooks, Android, or Linux operating systems. We currently
support two versions of Examplify. If you’re unsure which version of Examplify you currently have, Windows users can see
this help article and Mac users can use this help article.
Examplify does not support touchscreen input devices on Mac or Windows laptops.
Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) Requirements
The Kentucky Board of Nursing reserves the right to deny a nursing graduate the right to take the NCLEX-RN (licensing
examination to become a Registered Nurse) if an individual has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony that involved
acts bearing directly on the qualifications or the ability of the graduate to practice nursing. These are listed on the Kentucky
Board of Nursing website at http://kbn.ky.gov/apply/courtnet.htm. Questions about prior convictions should be directed to
KBN.
