Participation Expression of Interest
Learn about the technical aspects of C&I Solar Projects
The German Training Week (GTW) – Solar will be taking place from 13.02 – 16.02.2023 in Kampala, Uganda and we
are currently seeking highly motivated and experienced professionals to participate in this innovative course. As a
selected participant, you will have the opportunity to learn from German training experts how to develop solar PV
projects that will attract German investors and lenders to accelerate the realization of solar PV adoption in your market.
The focus of the course is on rooftop embedded solar PV projects that are designed for commercial and industrial (C&I)
end users that will consume the solar energy directly. By delivering the energy directly to the company or building
owner, lengthy processes associated with grid connections government tender schemes are avoided, and projects can be
delivered more rapidly. As these projects tend to be smaller it is often more difficult to attract investors and unattractive
financing conditions can act as a significant barrier. The GIZ has identified German investors and lenders who see the
value in embedded solar PV C&I projects in your market and are looking for a pipeline of projects of high quality
developed by reliable local partners. The GTW – Solar is designed so that project developers like yourselves can learn
what technical aspects of solar projects required to meet investor and lender requirements.
Leaning Outcomes and Structure of the GTW–Solar
The participants of the GTW – Solar course will be introduced to and made aware of a broad range of technical
concepts and available products that will allow you to become familiar with the diverse aspects of developing a solar
PV project. While you are not expected to become experts in all of these areas, you will be able to improve your skills
at developing and implementing your projects in a professional manner that will enable you to attract the investment
and financing required to bring them to completion.
The 4-day course is broken down as follows:
Day 1
Basic system design for PV systems
Day 2
Meteorological data collection and irradiation measurements
Day 3
Essentials of feasibility studies, tendering processes and technical fault detection
Day 4
Planning, Construction, Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance
The training sessions will not only use traditional frontal presentations, rather interactive in-class exercises using roleplay, mind-mapping and case-studies will be applied to encourage active participation and practical learning.
On the final day of the course there will be a final exam to test your knowledge and certificates of participation will be
provided for your records.
The expert trainers for the course have many years of training and expertise in the area of solar PV projects.
Representatives of German companies will also participate in the course by conducting some of the sessions where they
can share their relevant and practical experience with the material and topics. They will also be available for networking
opportunities as potential investors, lenders, consultants and suppliers for your projects.
