Standard - CC.1.5.2.A Participate in collaborative conversations with peers and adults in small and larger groups. 1. Seeing the differences between the two types of nouns. 2. Being able to label what type of noun is being used. Assessment Prompts In order to complete our two lesson essential questions the students will learn the definitions of both common and proper nouns to see that there is a difference between the two nouns. The definitions will have examples with them to show there is a difference between common and proper nouns such as girl and the name Emily. After going through the definitions and examples there will be three engaging activities where students have to sort and figure out which noun is common in which noun is proper and put it in the correct area for the now we are looking for. Activating Strategy The activating strategy for this lesson will be a think aloud where students will talk within their groups to come up with the definition of what a noun is from previous lessons. Then we will have a quick discussion on when everyone came up with within their groups and then we will move onto the lesson. Teaching Strategy this lesson will be a very modeled lesson where I will give students the definitions and the examples and then I will give them time in their groups to think discuss which noun they believe is common and which noun is proper so during the engagement strategy students will be able to volunteer to come up to the board to show their learning. Will be a lot of discussion and repetition throughout the lesson so students can come to the understanding that there is a difference between the two nouns and then after the whole group activity there will be an individual group activity where students will put their own thinking to the task then have to sort their own nouns and then complete the activity to make the noun tree correctly. The differentiation in this lesson are the words that were used for the Nouns and that before students start gluing down the pieces to the activity they will raise her hand and show The nouns they had sorted for correction and if they have any problems they will be able to talk to the teacher. Vocabulary common nouns and proper nouns Summary The summary for this lesson is students will be creating a noun tree where they will be demonstrating their knowledge of common and proper nouns by sorting nouns and placing them under the correct column of either common improper gluing them onto different pre cut leaves and then pasting them to a tree where in either corner of the paper was a common improper to show they understand the difference between the nouns.
