RSA 4400 Isabelle Jackson 1/20/2023 The Secret Life of the World's Busiest Airport 1. What surprised you the most about what occurs behind the scenes at an airport? (25 points) -I was very surprised by the many statistics stated in the beginning of the video. The Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta Airport can handle over 2,000 flights every single day. I never knew that the planes were refueled through underground pipes that stretch for 23 miles. These pipes pump almost 3 million gallons of airplane fuel every day. 2. Does this film change your perceptions of air travel? If so, how? (25 points) -I already knew that there was a lot that goes into air travel, however I have only flown once. Seeing how much goes into the safety, security and preparations makes me feel better about flying and next time I fly, I will probably be less anxious. There are so many people in place to catch mishaps, if the first person in line misses something, someone else will surely catch it. 3. List and describe three safety precautions to protect the traveler taken by Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. (25 points) -First, all the bags that are checked get scanned or screened by the TSA. These use X-ray technology to find contraband. Second, suspicious bags are searched and inspected. Swabs are used to test for explosive substances on technology. Liquids are also swabbed. Third, passengers are screened using stand up metal detectors. They must take their shoes off and place the items from their pockets in a bin. Many guns are found and removed. 4. Why must food items be screened and why are some prohibited for entry into the US? (25 points) -Foreign food items can contain pests or illnesses that can spread quickly if they contaminate the US. Animal products are prohibited.
