I. Introduction: a. Introduce the general topic of the essay (The Home Front During World War II). b. Introduce the main subject that your essay will discuss (selected topics). Introductory Paragraph c. Thesis Statement: Write a 1-3 sentence debatable argument about your selected topic in response to the prompt. II. Topic Sentence: Write a topic sentence that is directly related to all or part of your thesis. (This should be an argument/observation not a general fact). a. Go more into detail about the ideas expressed in your topic sentence by providing 1st and 2nd Paragraphs more important related facts (context). b. Introduce the historical evidence from your research (primary/ secondary source). c. Describe the specific details from the evidence that supports your topic sentence. d. Explain how the specific evidence above help support your thesis e. You may provide more details form the evidence to further support your argument. f. Conclude your paragraph by rephrasing your topic sentence and/or transition to the next paragraph. III. Conclusion: Your conclusion may begin with a rephrasing of your thesis statement. a. Expand on a few details to make sure your thesis statement is clear and that the purpose of your essay is fulfilled (2-3 sentences). Optional Concluding Paragraph b. Final Sentences: These final sentences should express your ultimate thought(s) about the main idea of your essay. These final thoughts should not be followed with more evidence, rather, they can emphasize how well the evidence already discussed has supported your arguments.
