Anami Patel Business Forum Section Q1 Professor Greely November 11, 2021 My Five-Year Plan In 5 years, I hope to have obtained my CPA certification and be working in an accounting firm. In order to meet my goals, I will need to complete my bachelors and master’s degree, pass my CPA exam, and gain experience in order to set myself up for a job in a good accounting firm. Obtaining my overall goal will take hard work and effort. It requires perseverance and the mindset to no give up. My first milestone in achieving my overall goal will be to get my bachelors and masters degree. In order to do so I need to complete all my courses at Rutgers University in order to get my Bachelor’s degree. To complete my master’s, I hope to apply to NYU Stern Business School and complete my master’s degree there. NYU has very difficult enrollment requirement’s so the short-term goal is to graduate Rutgers with Cum Laude and have a strong enough grade point average and a good resume overall to be admitted into such a prestigious school. The second thing I need to do in order to achieve my overall goal is pass my CPA exam and get my CPA certification. The first step in doing so is getting 120 credits, I will do this by getting my bachelor’s degree and masters and that will get me the needed credits, I am also considering doing a minor in finance with my major in accounting in order to complete my credit requirements. After the credits are fulfilled, I would need to study very very hard to pass the levels of the CPA exam as there are multiple parts to it. The third thing that I need to do in order to reach my final goal is gain more professional experience. I would need to work internships in corporate settings and gain experience through there. The problem is that getting into the corporate setting requires experience which I am lacking. So the plan is the use my preexisting network to land an internship at a small accounting firm during tax season and use that acquired experience to apply for summer internships in bigger companies like J&J or Prudential or EY. The yearly breakdown of my plan would be this year get a internship with a small firm during tax season and get my foot in the door. Next year get a summer inter ship at J&J or Prudential. The year after that would be 2024 and hopefully by then I have fulfilled my requirements to get my bachelors degree. After which I would go straight to my masters at NYU and spend 2 years there. I would then spend the next year studying for my CPA exam and take my exam which I plan on passing. At the end of the 5th year, I hope to be working as a full tine associate at an accounting firm or company. The main part of this I need is to increase my networking. I can work in that by joining the accounting society at Rutgers, a business fraternity or even a social fraternity. All three of these lead the way to ample opportunities and set myself up for more ways in to the corporate world something that I do not have at the moment.
