A point is won by you if your opponent is unable to return the ball to your side of the table (e.g. they miss the ball, they hit the ball but it misses your side of the table, or the ball hits the net), or if they hit the ball before it bounces on their side of the table. A. SCORING • • The winner of a game is the first to 11 points. There must be a gap of at least two points between opponents at the end of the game though, so if the score is 10-10 (DEUCE) , the game goes in to extra play until one of the players has gained a lead of 2 points. The point goes to the player who successfully ends a rally, regardless of who has served. A match can consist of the number of games you like, just make sure you Agree this in advance.( Ex. 2 out of 3 sets) B. SERVING • SINGLES - A player takes two serves before the ball switches to the opponent to serve, except during periods of extra play where it changes each time. The first person to serve at the start of IL the game can be determined in many different ways, we’ll leave that up to you to decide! Service can be diagonal or in a straight line in singles • DOUBLES - Service must be diagonal, from the right half court (marked by a white line) to the opponent’s right half court. The ball must first bounce on your side and then in your opponents. Your opponent must allow the ball to hit their side of the table before trying to return this. • The ball must pass cleanly over the net – if it ‘clips’ the net and goes over, it is a ‘let’ and the serve is retaken. If it hits the net and doesn’t go over, the point goes to the other player/team. There are no second serves. • ITTF rules and standards must be applied at all eventualities. Semi-final and final will be best of 5, each game up to 11 points. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • ADDING UP THE POINTS The winner of a match is the one who wins the 2 or 3 or 4 games. A game consists of 11 points. There must be a gap of at least 2 points between Opponents. If the score is 10-10 the game goes in to extra play until one of the players gained a lead of 2 points. The point goes to the player who successfully ends a rally. The score of the server is always announce first. SCORING A player scores a point when his opponent commits one of the following errors. He isn’t able to return the ball. He returns the ball outside the opposite side of table. He lets the ball bounce more than once in his own court before returning it. SERVICE • The initial order of serving is decided by lot. Service changes every 2 points, except during periods of extra play where it changes each time. Service must adhere to the following rules: 1. The ball rests freely on the open palm of the hand 2. The hand holding the ball must be above the level of the table 3. SINGLES & DOUBLES TABLE TENNIS • • • • • • • • • • • In singles you can serve anywhere 2 serves alternate. The ball should bounce once before returning it. When you serve the ball must bounce first on your side of table over the net before bouncing in your opponent’s side of table. In a rally the ball should bounce directly to your opponents side of table Player cannot touch the table using the free hand The player cannot touch the table nor what the player is wearing if the ball is in flight Player must not drag or throw the racquet on the table In doubles 2 service alternate In returning a shot the player must return it alternately In service it should always be diagonal service or cross service If the game reaches the last set there should be a change of court when a player reaches the score of 5 pts. Both for singles and doubles. IL TABLE TENNIS DOUBLES GAME Like in singes game, the service still alternates every two points between teams, but it also alternates between team. Once your team has finished your two serves, you swap sides with your partner. The person you were serving to now serves and your partner is the new receiver. HOW DO YOU SCORE IN TABLE TENNIS DOUBLES A game shall be won by the player or pair first scoring 11 points. Unless both players or pairs score 10 points, when the game shall be won by the first pair subsequently gaining a lead of two pints. A match shall consist of the best of 2 out of 3 sets. PLAYING DOUBLES There are many benefits to getting students to play in pairs from improving spatial awareness to improving skills. DOUBLES RULES The service must go diagonally, from the servers right hand side to the receivers right hand angle. A doubles pair must strike the ball alternately. At the change of service, the previous receiver becomes the new server and the partner of the previous server becomes the receiver. ROTATION RULES FOR DOUBLES TABLE TENNIS GAME In doubles, you should alternate hitting the ball with your partner. So, for example, A1 serves the ball to B1, who returns the ball. A2 then hits the ball and B2 returns this. A1 hits and B2 returns this. A1 hits and B2 returns, A2 hit and B1 returns and so on . SINGLES GAME AND SCORING SYSTEM IN TABLE TENNIS According to the laws of table tennis, A player can win the game by scoring 11 points. With one point awarded for every infringement. If the score is tied at 10-10 a player then has to lead two points to win a game. A match is won by winning games. SERVICE The intention of the service is to give the receiver the ability to see the ball at all times in order to have a fair chance of reading the spin on the ball by the server. The ball must be visible throughout the duration of the game, it must not be hidden. The ball must always be behind the table, and above the playing surface. The ball must be thrown out vertically at least 16cm. In height. If the official is doubtful whether the serve is legal, the official may warn the server, if gain the player’s serve is doubtful legality, the umpire will fault the sever and award the point to his opponent. If the serve is clearly illegal, then the umpire will fault the player andaward the point to his opponent. IL Hitting the Ball It is legal to hit the ball with your finger holding the racket, even the racket hand below the wrist as long as it is one contact only. It is legal to switch the racket between hands during the point. A player may not throw the racket when hitting the ball. If a player accidentally drops the racket, the player must pick it up to hit the ball. SCORING Point is won by a player when his opponent will not be able to hit the ball with a racket over the net onto the other side of the table. Game is won if the player reaches 11, and at least 2 points ahead of his/her opponent. If both players have 10 pts. Then the player who gains 2 points lead wins the game. A match is best of 2 out of 3 games or depending on the agreement between players. The score must start with the score of 0-0.
