How long? Lifelong!
That is how learning should have been for many of us who are living in the 21 st Century. Lifelong learning means having the right
motivation to grow each day as we adapt to our ever-changing world. It is more than just accumulating knowledge as we grow older but more
of becoming competent to live each day.
Becoming a lifelong learner is a commitment. It requires discipline to do the things that would keep us grow and mature. It is something
that we carefully plan, decide, and do. The starting point of our lifelong learning journey is our conscious decision to plan how could we improve
in various areas of our life. This is best reflected in our Personal Lifelong Learning Plan (PLLP) in which we revisited the 21st Century Literacies
and put time and effort to plan how could we develop these personally.
Becoming a lifelong learner requires us to develop perseverance. It involves us to consistently and religiously follow our plan to ensure
that the 21st Century Literacies are developed. The PLLP is more than an assignment. It’s our blueprint on how we could navigate this present
world and its complexities. It means we must develop sustainability in our laid plans to ensure that even after this course, we will always
persevere to becoming 21st literate.
Becoming a lifelong leaner means becoming more effortful, adaptive and relevant to our present world. It means becoming more conscious
on what is happening around us and taking steps on how we could relate to it. It’s something that we do every day.
On a very personal note, I find the PLLP a very good tool for me to see and plan how I could improve— specifically and strategically. I
have been crafting my yearly faith goals in which some of them fails to be achieved. This could be because there is no specific time allotment
for each goal, and I have never listed some possible barriers and challenges and how should I troubleshoot it beforehand. But with PLLP, I can
now picture out my yearly and long-term plan and troubleshoot some possible barriers before it can obstruct my goals. PLLP may be something
that requires much thinking, but surely, it will guarantee a smooth lifelong learning journey.
Deciding consistently to become the better person in all aspects, including those, which the current century requires, is the fuel to a
lifelong journey of learning.
