— Reconociendo semejanzas a través de América Central y Asia del Sur.
Allies for the Uncertain Futures Part 4 / Aliados para los Futuros Inciertos Parte 4.
Curado por Shaunak Mahbubani (India), en colaboración con Party Office (New Delhi
+ documenta 15) en Oyoun (Berlin) y Festival Bataclán International (Ciudad de
México).
“No podemos darnos por vencidos escribiendo historias acerca de lo que significa ser
humano que desplaza a aquellos que están en la cimentación del imperio”. Escribe la
teórica cultural Sylvia Wynter, exponiendo la importancia de contar nuestras historias
en un mundo que está profundamente fragmentado.
En el fondo del trabajo primordial de Wynter está el rompimiento de la definición de
Hombre, constituida por la modernidad colonial, para introducir la idea de ser
humano como praxis, ambas expansivas e hibridas. En el ensayo ‘¿Ser Humano como
Sustantivo? ¿O Ser humano como Praxis? Hacia la Autopoética Convertir/Derribar: Un
Manifiesto, ‘Wynter se basa en el trabajo de Judith Butler para prescindir de las rígidas
categorías binarias que atraviesan el género, la raza, la clase, y otros ejes de
clasificación, sugiriendo estrategias de cooperación que puedan derribar barreras y
construir puentes. Wynter propone.
“Los grupos [H]umanos son los únicos capaces de trascender los estrechos límites
preestablecidos genéticamente determinados de los lazos eusociales, reconociendo
comportamientos inter-altruistas, y para alcanzar en cambio, niveles mucho mayores
de cooperación y organización, así ellos/nosotros somos capaces de hacerlo, sólo con
los medios de nuestra habilidad [..] para instaurarnos auto-poéticamente, a través del
entorno de nuestras historias de origen proyectadas retroactivamente...”
Este proyecto dialógico está sumamente interesado en entender estas estrategias
como herramientas prácticas para conectar dos regiones separadas por una gran
distancia planetaria, pero conectadas por historias adyacentes de colonización y
exclusión: Del Caribe y Centroamérica, región natal de Wynter, a Asia del Sur, ambas
extendidas entre el ecuador y 35° al Norte; reunidas en Alemania. Esta conexión
dipolar está nutrida por previas interacciones entre Shaunak Mahbubani (Allies for
the Uncertain Futures, India), ), Vidisha-Fadescha (Party Office, New Delhi) y Eli Moon
(Bataclán International, Mexico City) en 2019 y 2021.
Marcando la cuarta edición de la serie curatorial ‘Allies for the Uncertain Futures’, esta
multimodal exploración destacará narraciones, solidaridad e intervención dentro de
las artes visuales congregando artistas interesados en la auto-biografía y la autonarración como medios para constituirnos como humanos completos y complejos,
trazando genealogías para crear un terreno común para sostener conversaciones y
futuras interacciones.
Proponemos la estructura rizomática que consiste en nodos situados en Nueva Delhi,
Ciudad de México, Ciudad de Guatemala, Berlín y Kassel a lo largo de junio y diciembre
de 2022.
Cada nodo — compuesto por conversatorios, presentaciones, proyecciones y
exhibiciones — conectará especialistas de América Central y el Caribe, Asia del Sur y
sus diásporas.

— Recognizing Kin across Central America and South Asia
Allies for the Uncertain Futures Part 4
Curated by Shaunak Mahbubani (India), in partnership with Party Office (New Delhi +
documenta fifteen), Oyoun (Berlin), and Bataclán International Festival (Mexico City).
“We cannot give up writing stories about what it means to be human that displace
those that are at the foundation of Empire.” writes cultural theorist Sylvia Wynter,
expounding the importance of telling our stories in a world that is deeply fragmented.
At the core of Wynter’s pivotal work is the breaking down of the definition of Man as
constituted by colonial modernity, to introduce the idea of being human as praxis,
both expansive and hybrid. In the essay ‘Human Being as Noun? Or Being Human as
Praxis? Towards the Autopoetic Turn/Overturn: A Manifesto,’ Wynter builds upon the
work of Judith Butler to dispense with rigid binary categories across gender, race,
class and other axes of classification, suggesting strategies of cooperation that can
outvie barriers and build bridges. Wynter proposes.
“[H]uman groups are alone able to transcend the narrow genetically determined
preset limits of eusocial kin- recognizing inter altruistic behaviors, and to attain
instead to far higher levels of cooperation and organization, they/we are able to do so
only by means of our ability [..] to autopoetically institute ourselves, through the
medium of our retroactively projected origin stories..”
This dialogical project is keenly interested in understanding these strategies as
practical tools to connect two regions separated by large planetary distance, but
connected by adjacent histories of colonization and erasure: Wynter’s natal region of
the Caribbean and Central America to South Asia, both lying between the equator and
35° North; gathering in 2022 in Germany. This dipolar connection is nurtured by
previous interactions between Shaunak Mahbubani (Allies for the Uncertain Futures,
India), Vidisha-Fadescha (Party Office, New Delhi), and Eli Moon (Bataclán
International, Mexico City) in 2019 and 2021.
Marking the fourth edition of the curatorial series ‘Allies for the Uncertain Futures’,
this multimodal exploration will foreground storytelling, solidarity, and agency within
the visual arts by bringing together artists who are interested in auto-biography and
auto-narration as means of instituting ourselves as full and complex humans, tracing
genealogies to create a common ground for enduring conversations and future
engagements.
We propose a rhyzomatic structure consisting of situated nodes in New Delhi, Mexico
City, Guatemala City, Berlin, and Kassel across June - December 2022.
Each node — composed of conversations, presentations, screenings, and exhibition —
will connect cultural practitioners from Central America & the Caribbean, South Asia,
and their diasporas.
