Personal Statement I intend to take an Postgraduate Certificate in Education (without QTS) at the Anglia Ruskin University in order to develop and improve on my professional understanding of the teaching and learning process. This will give me a chance to have better lesson delivery, classroom experience and to advance my career. My ambition to become a teacher began when I was asked to volunteer in my former school, when I first delivered my first lesson, that single moment, the spark I saw from the children when they understood the lesson, made me realize that it was my destiny to nurture young ones. My passion over the years has only increased. For the past decade I have had many great experiences and opportunities to develop as a teacher thus far during my career, which has fueled my passion, even more for teaching and taking responsibility for my class. Throughout my teacher training thus far, I have gained experience working with children within the ages of nine and twenty years, from KS3 (Junior Secondary) to KS5 (High School) for aver a decade. I have so many opportunities during the years to develop as a teacher, but am particularly grateful to the regional pedagogic seminars I attended during these past years an also the inservice training I have gotten from my present school DCIS (Douala Cambridge International School, Cameroon) and from ENKO La Gaieté Bastos Yaoundé. These trainings and experiences have enabled me to develop as a teacher in delivering lessons, implementing assessments and using data to inform planning, teaching phonics, developing behaviour management techniques. At this point in my training, I am experienced in planning and delivering lessons that are structured and practical. An example is when I delivered a lesson on Effects of Forces: Hooke’s Law. I began the lesson by working with the learners to setup an experiment to measure the extensions caused by the loads we added on a spring. As their interest was picked, I then move to explain the results we have and draw graphs. This keep the learners focused as I continue with the explanation of important terms and we then do some theoretical exercise. For the plenary, I asked the learners to pair themselves and then ask one learner to write down a question in which they know the answer and give their partner to answer. My ethos as a teacher has further developed during my teacher training. I place tremendous value on knowledge and understanding and creative thinking. I also want my learners to feel safe and feel respected. As a teacher, I have developed and further strengthened my ability to create engaging lessons which will be a benefit to Anglia Ruskin. I look forward studying the modules; The Reflective Practitioner and Professional Evidenced-based Enquiry. These courses will permit me achieve my goals and give me the necessary knowledge and practice to deliver better lessons and advance in my career. I take an immense amount of pride in supporting children to become the best version of themselves and seeing how much I have influenced their learning. All these make me a perfect candidate for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (without QTS) at Anglia Ruskin University. I am currently working as a teacher of Physics and Mathematics to Secondary and High school age learners. I am now focusing on education for secondary school learners between the ages 10 and 19. Education in Physics and Mathematics is a vehicle by which young people can create opportunities for themselves. I hope to give my learners the best chance to take those opportunities.
