GREENJOTS LIMITED WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR PAINTING WORKS FOR BOTH EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL WALLS DOC: JOTS/2023/NNPC/QMS/01 DATE: 10-01-2023 REV : 0 PAGE :2 OF 5 1.0 Introduction Sequel to the EHS briefing on the Rebranding Project Phase II that took place on the 12th January 2023, on the teams video conference platform, the need to be fully safety awared and compliant was emphasised for both the top management, supervisiors, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled personnel. Hence, the EHS team from the Client requested Vendors to submit detailed work methodology for their respective envisaged work. Our Submission contains the Purpose and scope of this document, painting and health requirement, work procedure, paint application, Tools and Equipment and identified hazards and risks 2.0 Purpose and Scope The purpose of this method statement for painting works is to describe the ways and proper application of paints to existing NNPC stations within the country. It is expected that paints will be applied to both the external and internal spaces in compliance to drawings, specifications and provided materials. 3.0 Painting and Health Requirement The following will be provided; - All workers on site will be provided with a full kit of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - All workers will attend a 1-day safety induction and course to identify hazards associated with this painting work - The right tool will be deployed for the right job. - Works on site would be properly managed and the use of ladders will be strictly prohibited. An independent scaffold will be required 4.0 Material Data Safety Plan shall be visibly displayed at work location as appropriate Work Procedure - The provided materials, drawings specification etc will be checked and ascertained that they are approved by the Client representative - The delivered paint will be checked for the following; Expiry date, original labelled container, manufacturer’s name, type of paint, brand name, color designation and instruction for mixing etc. - Materials shall be stored in a cool dry well ventilated place and kept away from direct sunlight - The parts not to be painted will be adequately covered before the commencement of painting works GREENJOTS LIMITED WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR PAINTING WORKS FOR BOTH EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL WALLS DOC: JOTS/2023/NNPC/QMS/01 DATE: 10-01-2023 REV : 0 PAGE :3 OF 5 - Before the commencement of the work, we will remove all frames, electrical fixtures, obstructions etc and would be reinstated after painting work is dry - Mock samples will be prepared in designated area for the approval of the Client representative using the correct materials, number of coats, colour, textures and degree of gloss required - The surfaces to be painted would be free of loose particles and in accordance to the manufacturers’ recommendations - Painting works shall not commence in windy or rainy environments - Proper working platform and lighting provisions will be provided to cober all the paint area - Scaffolding shall be checked for stability and safety - House keeping will be ensured and work environment kept tidy 5.0 Preparation for Painting works - Prior to the commencement of the painting activities, the floors, adjacent work area would be thoroughly cleaned. - Surfaces shall be cleaned, sound, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhesive dirts, greese, oils etc - Defects in the areas to be painted will be repaired using approved patching materials and sealed before the applicaton of the priming coats - Fill any nail or bolt holes after the primer has been applied - Wire brush existing concrete walls surfaces before the application of paints - In this case, it is most likely that existing surfaces would have old paints, these should be cleaned, sanded and primed with the approved primer. 6.0 7.0 Application of Paints - All liquid paint shall be thoroughly stirred to a uniform consistency - Thinning and mix ratio shall be in accordance to the manufacturer’s specifications - Paints shall be applied under adequate illumination - Materials shall be evenly spread and applied smoothly wihout runs or sags by very skilled painter - Adequate care will be taken to avoid brush marks or sags or other defects - Spilled or shattered paints would be carefully removed as work proceeds and upon completion. Spray guns 2. Masks 3. Painting Rollers 4. Painting Brush 5. Putty Knives 6. Scrappers 7. Abrassive paper 8. Buckets 9. Mobile Scaffolds 8.0 Identified Hazards and Risks Emergency Preparedness: The project manager and HSE officer will ensure that all workers are aware of the correct response to various emergency situations. The response guidelines for this work will include; Assessing the Hazard at the Scene: Upon discovering the incidence, workers will take time to carefully assess the area to be sure that it is safe and there would be no further injury or incident to those involved, take appropriate precautions according to the type of damage and cause of accident like; Vehicle Accident - Switch off the vehicle and ensure that smoking is allowed in the vicinity Make use of by-standers to control traffic and crowds, to call for help and if capable assist in first aid Electrical Accident - Swich off the current and break contact between the injured person and the power source Do not touch the vimtims or live wires, use non conducting materials such as dry sticks to remove wires from the casualty Do not approach a fallen high tensioned wire until the power company officials gives permission Apply artificial respiration if need be Fuel, Fumes or Chemical Spills - Switch off any form of likely ignition Dig a hole or dung to contain the spill Contain the spill and isolate the area Personal Injury - Do not panic rather obtain proper medical assistance for the victim Assess he area and ensure that it is safe for yourself and every other people Only move the victim if they are in immediate danger within the work space GREENJOTS LIMITED WORK METHOD STATEMENT FOR PAINTING WORKS FOR BOTH EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL WALLS DOC: JOTS/2023/NNPC/QMS/01 DATE: 10-01-2023 REV : 0 PAGE :5 OF 5 - Send someone to call for emergency help by locating the nearest first aider or anyone trained in first aid otherwise call 112 for the ambulance and provide the following information Circumstances of the incidence and condition of the victim Number of casualty involved Exact location of the incidence Help that has been given or is being given Wait to be told what to do before hanging up the call Protect and shelter the victim until help arrives and post someone at the entrance to direct ambulance to the point of incidence
