BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for assessing & collecting data of the operating condition of all
rotating & fixed equipment installed in Smelter, Refinery, Sulfuric Acid Plant,
Power Plant, WANP, Slag Flotation Plant, Compressors & Blower House,
Oxygen Plant & Laboratory facilities by conducting condition & vibration
monitoring, non-destructive testing. Recommend preventive/corrective measures
to avoid untimely equipment breakdown and unscheduled production downtime.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:






Conducts daily equipment vibration monitoring and test using handheld
vibration meter (SKF Machine Condition Advisor CMAS 100-SL) and SKF
Vibration Analyzer (CMVA 10, CMVA 60 & CMXA 50) to identify equipment
defects like unbalance impeller, misalignment, looseness, bearing defects,
gear defects.
Conduct regular Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods such as:
 Ultrasonic thickness gauging (using DMS2, USK 7D & UTM 100) to identify
remaining wall thickness of process pipelines (acid, steam, cooling water,
fuel, & oil), boiler tubes, steam drums, pressure vessels and tanks to
ascertain its serviceability and likewise determine the erosion and corrosion
rate base on applicable standards.
 Hardness testing (using Equotip 2 & Durometer) of metal plates, steel bars,
rubber materials, spare parts, newly repaired equipment and other
materials.
 Dye penetrant testing to detect any discontinuities that are open to surface
like cracks, porosities.
 Positive Metal Identification using Innov-X Delta (X-ray Fluorescence) to
identify chemical properties of metal.
Conduct regular in-place balancing and shop balancing of impellers, pulleys.
Monitor daily equipment operating parameters such as bearing temperatures,
pressure, and record to file folder for trending and correlation to detect early
stage of abnormalities.
Interpret spectrum, graphs and other visual indicators generated by the
computer from different vibration & NDT instruments based on interpreted
codes and standards.
Prepare NDT/Vibration Test report containing external and internal sketches /
drawing of defective equipment, interpreted spectrum/ plots, possible causes
of abnormalities base on NDT standards and recommendations for solutions to
the problem.



Collects regular lube oil samples from all main equipment lubrication systems
for monitoring and submit to laboratory or oil supplier for analysis and conduct
oil quality analysis using lubri sensor (N1-2C). Conduct visual inspection of
lube oil status and report any abnormality. Make routine visual checks to
ascertain any machinery fault by feel, sight or sound.
Perform occasional duties such as evaluation/ testing of newly delivered items
or samples (e.g., welding electrodes), qualification testing for welders hired as
contractual.
Generate work request or work orders (Oracle) of any problems or abnormality
observed on any equipment. Generate reports after carrying out field test for
records and documentation.
