The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Oshogbo is a company that is responsible for electricity
transmission, system operation and also to maintain the electrical and electronics equipment and
transmission grid network. It is responsible for evacuating electric power generated by the electricity
generating companies’ (GENCOS) and wheeling it to distribution companies (DISCOS). It provides the vital
transmission infrastructure between the generating companies and distribution companies’ feeder sub-station
for deliveringreliable, cost-effective Electric power to end users in Nigeria.

Carrier signal test
Troubleshooting of faulty equipment’s.
Preventive maintenance test on 110DC and 50DC battery bank
Annual preventive maintenance on power transformer.

EXPERIENCE GAINED
 I was exposed to how electricity is being transmitted from the generating company to end users in
Nigeria.
 I learnt how to carry out maintenance on power transformer and some switchyard equipment
 I learnt the important role of protection control and metering department, electrical department in
TCN.
 I learnt how to carry out carrier signal test.
 I learnt the functions of instrument transformer and how the installation is being carried out.
 I learnt how to carry out battery maintenance and check drop in voltage of a battery at certain
interval.
 I learnt how to carry out polarize index (PI) test and insulation resistance (IR) test on transformer.
 I learnt the mechanism behind the operation of circuit breaker and relays.
RELEVANCE OF TRAINING TO COURSE OF STUDY: The training are relevant to my course of
study, it provided me the opportunity to practicalize and also broadened my knowledge on what I was taught
in Phy 205, Phy 206, Phy 214, and Phy 309.
FUTURE CAREER PLAN: Due to my experience, I would love to become an Electrical Power Eng.
RECOMMENDATION: I will strongly recommend Transmission Company of Nigeria Osogbo sub-region
to any physics and Electronics student interested in gaining Experience in the electrical Field.
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the programme has enabled me to see the application of techniques taught
in class, it also gave me the privilege of putting these techniques in use. Also improve my practical skills
related to interpersonal, problems solving, research and reporting skills.
