However, there are some issues:
These issues of salaries are the reasons of the demonstrations that have been organized these recent
years in the country. They want to protest the pay policy.
Communication : First, there is a communication problem and this leads to dissatisfaction: RATP
promised a general rise of salaries for all the employees of 2,7% and only gave 0,4 % splitted between
category measures and individual promotion measures.
But we can ask ourselves why are workers not satisfied about their salaries if they are pretty high
compared to the private sector.
Indeed, The median salary at RATP is 2625 euros. The median salary in the private sector is only 1,800
euros .
Same Finaly, the age of departure also goes as an advantage to RATP employees. The average age of
departure is 55.7 years and 63 years in the private sector.
What is wrong then ?
In fact, salaries are not that high especially for the young workforce wishing a good salary in the
beginning. Given that your salary depends on your grade and scale that are acquired throughout your
career, it takes few years before claiming good opportunities. This is what is explained in many
testimonies of young people working for this firm : They consider the working conditions ( underground,
dirty environment, pollution, responsibility of hundreds of people..) not being sufficiently good enough
to work there . Their salary is not up to their expectations.
By glancing at the table just under, we observe the base salary to be about 1700 while with years and
experience , this salary raises at more than 2500 overall.
These discrepancies are at the origin of a lack of recruitment and motivation among young workers who
prefer not to work there.
There is also something else: There is another source of a loss of motivation linked to the pay policy : For
the workers who decide to stay , they obtain a better salary throughout the years but between their 16th
and their 28th year , they gain … nothing ! There is an improvement of salaries each year apart from these
12 years. It thus seems unequal to pay the same amount of money someone who is working for 16 years
and 27 years in the company.
However, if they succeed in their career and manage to attain 30 years, their salary is multiplied by a lot.
There is no continuous pay improvement.
