6 / January / 2023 Dear parents, Happy new year, may it be filled with new adventures and good fortune. Fun things we did in class this week We had a short week in class but still had lots of fun. We discussed the new year and how we change to a new year. We also looked at some ways people celebrate the new year. On Thursday we all got dressed up in an Áo dài and went to the flower garden to take photos. All our students looked so beautiful, and we are looking forward to seeing the photos. In Language Art, we reviewed our high-frequency words but, on, find, from, came and this – students had to read, spell, write and make a sentence with the words. We blend with CVC words containing the vowel O. In Math, we learn numbers up to 17 – counting objects, writing number names, showing it in a ten frame and saying how many ones each number has. We reviewed the qualities of each shape and learned about the hexagon. In Science, we are learning about the Earth’s resources, we reviewed everything about rocks and water as well as discussed things that are natural and man-made. We went for a walk outside to look at different natural and man-made things. We did a cool experiment with butterfly tea changing the color of the water to blue and when adding lime it changes to purple. Students had lots of fun with this experiment and were amazed to see the results. Class Achievements Students are getting along very well with each other and are able to have more complete conversations with each other in English. I can see that they are using more vocabulary and think about the sentence structure or words to use when they are talking to me. Proud to see that they are using the vocabulary we learn in conversations. Things we can improve Students are getting very comfortable in class and seem to forget about the class rules. Students should also remember to greet and follow instructions from teachers in other classes and not only the Lion 2 teachers. Practice at home Students can practice writing high-frequency words to improve handwriting as well as memorizing the words to improve quick reading. Do addition and subtraction with numbers up to 17, they can use objects or drawings to help them. To improve gross motor skills students can practice skipping rope or just jump over a rope set on different heights. Next week’s activities Our topic next week will be Oceans and waterways. We will look at the ocean and the things living in the ocean. We will also look at how we are busy polluting the oceans and ways we can try reducing the pollution. Many thanks and kind regards, Ms Lerize, Ms Lily and Ms Hien
